The Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (DPMC) is seeking a skilled and motivated Principal Advisor/ International Engagement led to join the National Assessments Bureau (NAB) on a 12-month fixed-term basis through to May 2027. This is a unique opportunity to lead NABs international engagement and in house analytic standards.
Experience in producing intelligence assessments and formal training in analytic techniques would be beneficial. Top Secret Special (TSS) security clearance is essential for this position.
About the Role
As a Principal Advisor you will have a depth of experience as an analyst and deep knowledge of analytical tradecraft. You will lead the analytical tradecraft training and improve the intelligence assessment practices whilst maintaining high quality standards for NAB analysts.
As the International Engagement lead you will stay abreast of the engagement priorities of relevant New Zealand agencies, identifying and leveraging synergies and or opportunities for collaboration. You will be experienced in developing engagement strategies and lead the review and refresh of the international engagement strategy in coordination with NAB management.
On a day-to-day basis you will maintain a schedule of regular contact with partner representatives, receive and undertake requests and proposals and coordinate with other New Zealand agencies where mutual interests exist in interacting with partners. As the key contact point for NAB staff and other agencies you will manage logistics, communication and develop and maintain tools, such as template visit programmes, checklists and registers.
This is a fixed-term, full-time position based in Wellington, offering the chance to work in a fast-paced, high-impact environment at the centre of government.
Key Responsibilities
- Analytical product quality control, including peer review and editing
- Strategic Contribution: Collaborate with the NAB Management Team to shape the Bureaus strategic direction, drive continuous improvement, and ensure alignment with the broader goals of the National Security and Resilience (NSR) Group.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders across government, the New Zealand Intelligence Community (NZIC), and international partners to ensure assessments are relevant, timely, and impactful.
