Commercial Partner

Bank of New Zealand

Mō te Tūranga | About the Role

We have an opportunity for an experienced commercial banking professional to progress their career in an equally challenging yet exciting role, based in Wellington. This role will give you the opportunity to support some of our largest commercial customers with their goals.

What does a day in the life of a Commercial Partner look like?

No day is the same given the variety of customers, and that's what makes the role so exciting. A typical day might include:

  • In the morning you're out on-site with one of your customers reviewing their annual business plan and understand their funding needs for the year ahead.
  • Over lunch you have your Business Development hat on attending an industry event or meeting a new potential customer
  • During the afternoon you're back in the office analysing financials and the information you have gathered to structure lending assessments.

Any way you have it, you'll learn and grow, and get to work with a range of industry leading BNZ specialists to ensure the delivery of appropriate products and services to meet our customers' requirements.

What attributes will this person have in order to be successful?

The market is competitive and commercially orientated; therefore, the role requires someone with a high level of commercial acumen. You'll have a proven track record of success in financial services and experience dealing with business or commercial banking clients.

We need a self-motivated, ambitious team player who has a growth mindset and desire to contribute to the performance of our region. Ideally you will have an already established professional network, or proven ability to grow our client base.

What is the team culture and environment like?

You will be joining a collaborative and supportive team, allowing you to share knowledge, learn from others and continually grow and develop. We're looking for someone who's motivated to help put their stamp on our culture and challenge us to lift the bar.

This role is a great mix of working independently and coming together as a team to deliver for our clients.

What is the most challenging thing about this opportunity?

You're not afraid to put yourself out there, pick up the phone or jump in the car to see how you can help a client. They expect us to add value to them and what they do, therefore we must make every interaction count.

The successful candidate also needs to be able to be seen as a "trusted advisor" and build confidence by demonstrating their ability to work effectively through funding requirements for customers.
