The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) is the heart of Aotearoa New Zealand’s cyber defence. We fulfil the cyber security responsibilities of the Government Communications Security Bureau (GCSB) | Te Tira Tiaki, to detect and disrupt high-impact cyber threats for nationally significant organisations.
The role
As Intrusion Analysts, we defend Aotearoa New Zealand from the most serious and sophisticated cyber-attacks, as our foreign adversaries are often well resourced, highly skilled, and good at concealment. We constantly need to be aware of who the real adversary might be, what their objectives and targets are, and how best to uncover their trail to defeat them.
The team is high-performing and filled with cyber security professionals, striving to understand and counter, sophisticated cyber borne threats against Aotearoa New Zealand’s information infrastructures of significance.
Who are we looking for?
First & foremost, we are seeking candidates that are knowledgeable and passionate about information technology with a strong desire to specialize in Cyber Network Defence. In addition, you will need to demonstrate:
Expertise or interest in learning network and endpoint intrusion detection and discovery techniques
Knowledge of vulnerabilities, exploits and mitigation techniques
Programming/scripting experience
A willingness to try new things, be innovative and push boundaries of traditional cyber defence techniques
Information Security
Computer Science
Information Technology or
Data Science
As this is a multi-levelled role, the level of appointment will be determined upon assessment of the preferred candidates skills and experience. The expected appointing range for each level is below:
Level 1: $87,048 - $92,851
Level 2: $103,009 - $109,876
Level 3: $120,359 - $128,383

Before you apply
Working within our unique environment means we must ensure you’re eligible for employment. You must:
Have been a New Zealand Citizen for at least 10 years
OR
Hold a current NZ Residency Class visa and ideally have been a citizen of the UK, USA, Canada or Australia for at least 10 years
Be eligible to obtain a Top Secret Special (TSS) clearance
Ordinarily this means you will have a 15-year checkable background in countries NZSIS Vetting can make meaningful and reliable checks
