About the Team |

ASB’s Payments Tribe has end to end accountability for how payments are designed, built and delivered across the bank.

Within the Tribe, the Payments Centre of Excellence provides leadership, governance and specialist expertise across payments to deliver reliable, secure and customer focused payment experiences. This role sits within that Centre and works across multiple squads and initiatives, ensuring approaches are consistent, scalable and aligned to our broader direction.

Alongside key transformation programmes, the team is shaping ASB’s contribution to New Zealand’s payments modernisation agenda.

About the Role |

As Payments Solution Lead, you will design and guide end to end payment approaches that translate business and technical requirements into clear delivery pathways. You will maintain oversight across the full lifecycle, from early design through to implementation.

This is a leadership role focused on connecting strategy, customer outcomes and technical delivery. You will work closely with product owners, engineers and bank stakeholders to ensure the right approach is defined early and delivered as intended.

Your Key Responsibilities Will Include

• Translate strategic objectives and business needs into clear, end to end design approaches
• Provide payments domain expertise and guidance across squads and initiatives
• Ensure alignment with architecture, standards and governance frameworks
• Work with delivery teams to shape requirements into practical flows, capabilities and designs
• Maintain oversight of execution, ensuring delivery aligns to intended outcomes
• Identify gaps or risks in current approaches and recommend improvements or alternative options
• Support payments modernisation initiatives and the development of ASB’s payments roadmap
• Contribute to prioritisation, funding and capability decisions through clear definition of needs
• Ensure resilience, scalability and security are considered throughout

About You |

You bring deep payments knowledge and can connect business intent with technical execution. You are comfortable working across product, delivery and technology, and can guide direction without needing to be hands on in every part of delivery.

You understand how payment systems operate and can design approaches that work in practice. You keep the customer outcome in mind and make decisions that balance experience, risk and feasibility.

You Will Bring

• Strong experience in payments within banking, financial services or payment technology
• A deep understanding of payment infrastructure, schemes and industry practices
• Experience designing or leading end to end approaches within complex environments
• Background in product management, service design, delivery or technical leadership
• Experience working with agile teams and translating requirements into clear delivery pathways
• Ability to influence and align stakeholders across business, product and technology
• A track record of improving customer journeys or payment experiences
• Strong commercial awareness to support prioritisation and investment decisions
