Senior Artificial Intelligence Developer

Beca

Te whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

We’re looking for a Senior Artificial Intelligence Developer to help design and deliver practical, AI‑enabled tools that support engineering and technical teams across Beca. This is a hands‑on role suited to someone who already has solid experience in software development and applied AI and is ready to broaden their scope, take on more responsibility, and step into a more senior delivery role.

You’ll work closely with engineering business users, digital specialists, and data teams to iterate on high‑value use cases and turn them into scalable, production‑ready solutions. Your work will span areas such as document intelligence, engineering automation, computer vision, machine learning, AI-augmented verification, and compliance support, giving you exposure to a wide range of real‑world engineering problems and AI applications.

You will be operating in a highly agile environment, often working on 2, 3 or more projects simultaneously, and taking a fail fast approach. You will use tools and frameworks appropriate to the use-case at hand – these range from Python/SciKit/ML libraries, and C#/Agent Framework, to Power BI, low-code or pro-code environments such as Microsoft Foundry and Copilot Studio, and more. The problems you will work on are as diverse as the tool set – including but not limited to unstructured data extraction and retrieval, automation workflows, ML model training, AI Agents, and more.

As you grow into the role, you’ll develop your ability to work with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders, translating complex ideas into usable outcomes. Through this work, you’ll help strengthen Beca’s applied AI capability and build your profile as a trusted AI practitioner contributing to responsible, real‑world solutions across our business.

Ko wai koe | About you

You have a strong foundation in artificial intelligence and software development and are ready to take the next step in your career by working on more complex, end‑to‑end AI solutions. You enjoy applying machine learning and AI to practical engineering and technical problems and are motivated by delivering reliable, real‑world outcomes across areas such as document intelligence, automation, reporting, and compliance support.

You have experience contributing to AI solutions from early experimentation through to deployment and improvement, and you’re keen to build confidence owning larger pieces of work. You enjoy building systems from first principles rather than relying solely on pre‑configured tools, and you’re comfortable developing AI‑enabled applications using the appropriate toolkit

You bring a consulting mindset — collaborative, curious, and outcome‑focused. You work well with business users, technical specialists, and stakeholders, helping translate requirements into practical AI solutions and iterating based on feedback. You communicate clearly and are developing confidence explaining technical concepts to non‑technical audiences, supporting adoption of new tools across teams.

Your background includes hands‑on experience with applied AI techniques such as LLM application development, prompt engineering, structured outputs, document parsing, and, ideally, exposure to computer vision or domain‑specific data. Supported by good programming capability, some experience with cloud and CI/CD practices, and an interest in engineering contexts, you’re motivated to keep learning and apply AI in ways that are ethical, secure, and genuinely useful — contributing to meaningful outcomes for clients, communities, and the built environment through Beca’s consulting network.
