Our Mechanical Engineering team is growing and we're looking for a Mechanical Estimator based in either Tauranga or Auckland to join us.
This role would suit an experienced Mechanical Project Engineer or Manager who is looking to move into a more office based role with enhanced work life balance.
You will be familiar with the construction processes ideally within water treatment and wastewater treatment industries, with at least 5 years exposure to site and/or workshop environments. Act as a visualiser for how works will be physically constructed, assigning durations to each part of the work sequence and determining the labour, materials, plant, subcontractors, and overheads required.
You'll typically be pricing 1-2 tenders at a time, with a usual tender period of around 8 weeks. Tenders are generally delivered by a team made up of an estimator (pricing), bid manager (methodology and programme), tender writer (client correspondence and bid assembly), and managers who review and sign off the final submission.
Being able to cooperate well with others, be transparent with your capabilities and progress especially on large projects - supported by the Lead Mechanical Estimator.
In addition to the above you will
- Take-off quantities from drawings (layouts, isometrics, P&IDs)
- Review specifications & contract documents and NZS3910 contract conditions
- Price fabrication & installation of pipework, structural steel, platforms & walkway, process equipment
- Price testing & commissioning
- Gather market pricing for materials (valves, pumps, penstocks, stoplogs, tanks, flares, instruments and various process equipment)
- Gather market pricing for subcontractor works (electrical, automation, building services, design, civils, scaffolding, cranage, blasting & painting, NDT & inspections)
- Manage subcontractor/supplier packages (write & send RFQs, review subcontractor pricing & clarifications, carry out comparisons and selections)
- Price P&G (management, site facilities, accommodation & travel, bonds, retentions, insurances)
- Provide input on risk register, tender programme, methodology & clarifications
- Present work in internal tender reviews in order to secure approval from management
- Prepare final schedule of pricing
We're looking for someone with
- 3 years' experience in the industry of construction, industrial, water, heavy industrial, or similar.
- Strong software exposure to CCS Candy, MS Excel and MS Projects.
- Good understanding of the NZ supply chain industry; materials are subcontractors.
- Strong ability to interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, specifications, and schedules.
- A tertiary qualification at minimum level 7 NZQF in Engineering, Mechanical, Quantity Surveying or similar is preferred.
- Confident numerical and analytical skills, with high attention to detail and accuracy under time pressure.
- Confident communication skills and the ability to build strong relationships with clients, suppliers and internal teams.
