Technical Plumber - Smart Metering & IoT Installations

Smart Metering is a New Zealand-based company delivering automated water and utility metering solutions for apartments, commercial buildings, and developments.

We replace manual meter reading with smart, connected systems that provide accurate, real-time usage data. Our work sits at the intersection of plumbing, technology, and problem-solving, and we're growing fast with multiple new sites coming online across Auckland and beyond.

The Role

We're looking for a Technical Plumber who enjoys variety and likes working with modern systems rather than doing the same job every day.

This role combines hands-on plumbing with technology setup, site assessments and quotes, project management and fault finding. You'll be involved early - visiting sites, helping design the right setup, installing equipment, fixing faults, commissioning systems, and supporting sites once they're live.

Key Responsibilities

• Install smart water meters and associated plumbing infrastructure
• Configure and commission meters and communication gateways
• Carry out site visits to understand customer needs and propose practical metering solutions
• Support new installations across residential, commercial, and multi-dwelling developments
• Troubleshoot faults across meters, communications, and installations
• Assist with installation scoping and quoting using real site knowledge
• Work closely with operations and project teams as sites go live

What We're Looking For

• Qualified plumber with 3+ years experience
• Comfortable using mobile apps, laptops, and digital tools on site
• Interest in technology and willingness to learn new systems
• Strong problem-solving skills and a practical mindset
• Basic Microsoft Excel experience or ability to learn
• Ability to work independently and manage your own installs
• Clear communication with customers and internal teams
• Full NZ driver's licence
• Own vehicle an advantage but not essential
• Experience with smart meters, IoT devices, or technical systems is an advantage, but not essential - we'll train the right person
