Manager External Reporting & Tax

We are seeking an experienced and commercially minded Manager, External Reporting & Tax to join our Finance team on a fixed-term basis for 13 months to cover a parental leave. This is a pivotal leadership role responsible for ensuring the delivery of high-quality external financial and regulatory reporting, alongside the effective management of all taxation matters across Suncorp New Zealand.

You’ll lead a high-performing team, partner closely with senior stakeholders, and play a key role in maintaining strong governance, compliance, and financial integrity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver fully IFRS-compliant financial reporting across all entities, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
  • Lead the end-to-end external audit process, managing relationships with auditors and ensuring high-quality deliverables
  • Provide technical accounting advice on new transactions, projects, and evolving standards
  • Oversee all tax compliance obligations (excluding payroll tax), ensuring filings and payments are accurate and on time
  • Provide expert tax advice across the business, including on transactions, product development, regulatory changes, and cross-border matters
  • Lead, coach, and develop a capable and engaged team
  • Foster a high-performance culture and support broader Finance initiatives

About You

You are a technically strong and collaborative finance leader with deep expertise in external reporting and tax. You bring a proactive mindset, strong influencing skills, and the ability to navigate complexity.

What You’ll Bring

  • A Commerce and/or Law degree and CA/CPA qualification
  • 8–10+ years’ post-qualification experience in financial reporting and tax (Big 4 and/or corporate environment)
  • Strong IFRS and tax technical expertise, with the ability to apply this in a practical setting
  • Proven leadership experience with the ability to engage, coach, and influence stakeholders
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Advanced Excel and strong systems capability
  • A continuous learning mindset and ability to adapt to change
