About The Role

We’re seeking an experienced Heavy Diesel Mechanic to lead our Bluff Port Workshop, ensuring safe, efficient, and high‑quality maintenance of heavy machinery and port equipment. This is a hands‑on leadership role, ideal for someone confident on the tools and capable of supervising day‑to‑day workshop operations.

You’ll be responsible for both mechanical work and leading a small team, with a strong focus on safety, planning, and operational delivery.

Location: Bluff

Status: Full-time, Monday to Friday

Specific Responsibilities

  • Lead day‑to‑day operations of the Bluff workshop
  • Diagnose, service, repair, and maintain heavy plant (loaders, excavators, forklifts, trucks, and attachments)
  • Supervise and support a small mechanical team
  • Plan and prioritise work to meet operational requirements
  • Ensure all maintenance meets safety, quality, and compliance standards
  • Participate in rostered call‑outs as required

Who we're after

  • NZQA Level 4 Automotive Heavy Engineering qualification (or NZQA‑recognised equivalent)
  • Proven experience maintaining and repairing heavy machinery
  • Strong leadership, organisation, and planning skills
  • A proactive self‑starter with a hands‑on approach
  • Strong safety mindset and commitment to Zero Harm
