As Senior Producer, reporting to the Executive Producer, Breakfast, you'll help drive a high‑performing team of producers, reporters and presenters delivering compelling daily content across the Breakfast show and its digital platforms. This is a key leadership opportunity within the Breakfast team.
The opportunity - Te tūranga
In this role you will support the Executive Producer, Breakfast to lead and manage a team of producers, reporters and presenters in the production of daily content for the Breakfast program and its digital offer. This is a senior leader role within the breakfast program and across the newsroom
In this role, you will work closely with the programme's EP and presenters to ensure the show content is editorially sound. You will strong editorial judgement and standards.
Your focus will be on
· Provide strong editorial direction for Breakfast working in conjunction with the EP and Planning Editor
· Lead decision making from 4am including the deployment of resources to ensure we maximise coverage of breaking news and events.
· Communicate and manage breaking news to position Breakfast as the 'go to' platform for NZers wanting the latest information.
· Leadership in story generation and, selection and treatment.
· Participate in editorial meeting and provide input to determine content and coverage daily.
· Manage two direct reports - the Program Producer and the Chase Producer - including leave and sickness cover and assume full responsibility for their development
· Lead, motivate, communicate and train your team to ensure delivery of business results. Provide an appropriate level of support and delegation to ensure operational excellence.

To be successful in this role, you will need
· Advanced editorial skills - able to make sound judgement calls under pressure ensuring we have the news and pictures first
· Extensive experience managing hosts and developing a relationship that will deliver the best possible program.
· Demonstrated ability to understand editorial briefs, coupled with high editorial integrity.
· Experience in managing the logistics of programme production
· Solid news judgement and proven experience in broadcast journalism and production
· Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with a proven track record of leading and developing high performing teams.
· Advanced communication skills, both verbal and written and experience of high level decision making skills
· Excellent organisational and project management skills.
· Proven people management experience
· Focused, and performs well under pressure.
· Able to work with deadlines.
· Tertiary journalism qualification from industry or recognised institution
· Possesses extensive knowledge of the industry including legislative requirements, practising codes, and News and Current Affairs policies and procedures.
· Extensive knowledge of Television operational and production processes, including new technology.
· Maintains a good general knowledge and a keen awareness of local, national and international events and across daily news developments.
