We’re a small, ambitious Wellington-based team building Critter ( https://getcritter.com) — a new SaaS platform that gives boards, executives, and operational teams continuous, verified visibility of their critical risk controls across their organisation and supply chain. The product is pre-launch, and we’re moving fast.

Our current team includes our CPO (who also leads engineering), CMO, one other engineer, and a dedicated UX/UI specialist. We’re now looking for a Senior Product Engineer to own the “what” and the “why” of our technical direction while helping the whole team execute the detail.

This is not a pure “heads-down coder” role, and let's be honest, there are 1000s of those roles out there is that is your thing. This is not one of them.

What you’ll actually do

• Help build a strong, collaborative engineering culture in a currently 4–5 person team that will scale after launch. This teaming culture comes first, and strong technical contribution second.
• Co-own the end-to-end technical vision and architecture using Domain-Driven Design as our core approach.
• Partner closely with the CPO to turn business and user needs into clear, high-impact technical decisions.
• Champion Test-Driven Development across everything we build.
• Write production code in our stack (C# / .NET / Azure) while actively leveraging AI tools to amplify output for yourself and the team.
• Mentor and raise the capability of the existing engineers so the whole team becomes significantly more effective and more cohesive.
• Work tightly with our UX/UI specialist and CMO to ensure technical choices accelerate user value and time-to-market.

What we’re looking for

• A deep commitment to empowering the whole team — you succeed when others around you become better and faster.
• Strong senior-level experience with C#, .NET, and Azure.
• Real, hands-on expertise in Domain-Driven Design and Test-Driven Development — you will have proven experience living these practices, rather than simply knowing the theory.
• Proven ability to lead technical strategy in early-stage SaaS environments.
• High intellectual horsepower, low ego, and a collaborative style that smart people enjoy working with.
• Based in (or willing to relocate to) Wellington. In-person collaboration is important to us.
• You must be a New Zealand citizen or have New Zealand permanent residence.
