Automation Specialist – Networking

We are looking for an Automation Specialist – Networking to join our Core Infrastructure environment. This is a hands‑on role for someone who enjoys improving network environments through automation, good engineering practices, and practical problem solving.
About the team | Mō te tīma
You will join the Core Infrastructure team within ASB’s Engineering Practice. The team works in small, focused squads and takes a collaborative, agile approach to delivery. We support ASB’s enterprise network environment across on‑premise and cloud platforms and work closely with engineers and stakeholders across the bank.
About the role | Mō te tūranga
In this role, you will focus on automating network infrastructure and improving how we deploy, operate, and observe our environments. You will work alongside experienced network engineers and automation specialists, contributing directly to reducing manual effort and lifting reliability and visibility across the network estate.
You will have the opportunity to get hands‑on with complex, enterprise‑scale systems while working in a squad that values clear priorities, shared ownership, and technical input from everyone.
Key Responsibilities Include
- Automating and supporting network infrastructure deployments across on‑premise and cloud environments
- Improving workflows and processes to support scalable and highly available solutions
- Working with internal teams to understand needs and build tools that enable productivity
- Building monitoring, alerting, and reporting solutions to support network operations
This is a permanent, full‑time role based at ASB C:Drive in Albany, with hybrid working.

You bring a solid networking foundation and a genuine interest in infrastructure automation. You enjoy simplifying systems, improving reliability, and working across both technology and people.
Skills And Experience
Networking fundamentals
- Strong knowledge of LAN, WAN, and IP networking
- Experience with routing protocols such as BGP, OSPF, and EIGRP
- Understanding of core network security principles
Automation and infrastructure as code
- Hands‑on experience using Ansible for network or cloud automation
- Experience working with Terraform and infrastructure as code
- Exposure to CI/CD practices and safe automation approaches such as testing, validation, and rollback
- Good Git practices, including branching, pull requests, and code review
Observability and tooling
- Experience building or supporting monitoring, alerting, and reporting for network environments
- Comfort working with metrics, logs, and enterprise monitoring tools
Programmability and cloud exposure
- Scripting experience using Python or similar languages
- Familiarity with APIs and network programmability concepts
- Exposure to networking in Azure and/or AWS environments
Nice To Have
- YAML configuration for automation and pipelines
- DNS and IP address management experience
- Exposure to Infoblox or similar IPAM tools
