Retail Security Officer

We’re seeking a professional, reliable Retail Security Officer to join our team in Central Auckland, providing visible and customer‑focused security services within a busy retail environment.

The successful candidate for this role must be flexible in their availability to work through out the week, and be available for day, evening or night shifts. Shift timings for this role will vary upon rotation. This is a 36 hour per week full-time permanent opportunity.

About The Role

As a Retail Security Officer you’ll be a welcoming and authoritative presence on site, helping to maintain a safe shopping environment for customers, staff and tenants. Duties include:

• Provide a professional and approachable security presence across the retail site, including foot patrols, static guarding and customer assistance.
• Monitor shop floors, entrances, exits, storage areas and car parks to detect and deter theft, vandalism, anti-social behaviour and unauthorised access.
• Respond promptly and appropriately to incidents, disturbances, alarm activations and medical events; assess situations and escalate to management or emergency services when required.
• Report hazards, maintenance issues and safety concerns through the correct channels to maintain a safe environment for customers and staff.
• Complete accurate incident reports, daily logs and handover notes to ensure clear communication between shifts.
• Uphold Red Badge Group’s professional standards, store-specific policies and health & safety protocols at all times.

Shifts include days, nights, weekends and rotating rosters depending on site needs. All rosters will include at least one weekend day or night.

What We’re Looking For

• Reliable, punctual and able to work rostered shifts including weekends, evenings and public holidays as required.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills with the ability to de-escalate challenging interactions respectfully and lawfully.
• Strong observational skills, sound judgement and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
• Physical fitness for regular patrols and periods on your feet.
• Ability to safely and effectively de‑escalate aggressive or challenging behavior while maintaining professionalism.
• Proven ability to work independently, use initiative and follow procedures accurately.
• Clean criminal record and willingness to undergo required background checks.
• Ability to follow procedures and complete clear, timely reports

Requirements

• Current NZ Certificate of Approval (COA) or willingness to obtain one
• Minimum 18 years of age
• Eligibility to work in New Zealand
• Willingness to work on a flexible rotation schedule.
• Clean criminal conviction history (MOJ checks required)
