Senior Analyst/s to join our Investment Management and Strategy team. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to Government’s advice on infrastructure and investment management systems policy, capital investment and the strategic management of the Government’s balance sheet.

Kōrero mō te tūranga | About the Role

As a Senior Analyst in the Investment Management and Strategy team, you will play a critical role in providing expert advice and leadership to support the Government’s strategic objectives with a focus on the Crown’s balance sheet. You will work on complex and high-impact projects, collaborating with stakeholders across the public sector to deliver sustainable solutions for New Zealand’s economic, fiscal and infrastructure challenges.

Key Responsibilities Of The Investment Management And Strategy Team

  • Advise on the Government’s Balance Sheet Develop and deliver high-quality advice to optimise the management of the Crown’s financial and commercial assets, ensuring alignment with broader government objectives.
  • Advise on Management of the Crown’s Investment Programme Provide strategic analysis and recommendations to support the effective planning and execution of investment plans and individual investments, ensuring value for money and alignment with fiscal sustainability goals.
  • Stewardship of Systems Underpinning Investment and Asset Management develop and deliver advice to optimise the effectiveness of the systems and processes that support investment and asset management, ensuring robust frameworks and governance.
  • Infrastructure Systems Policy Lead the development of policies that drive performance in national infrastructure systems, ensuring alignment with long-term economic and fiscal priorities.
  • Strategic coordination of advice to support the Minister for Infrastructure and the Minister of Finance Provide high-quality, evidence-based advice and analysis to support Ministers in decision-making and policy development.

Our ideal candidate will have

  • Proven experience in economic, financial, or commercial policy analysis, with a focus on capital investment and infrastructure and investment systems.
  • Strong policy skills including an ability to write clearly and communicate well with senior leaders and Ministers.
  • Strong intellectual leadership and the ability to bring innovative ideas into policy discussions.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships across government agencies and external partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex and ambiguous issues, applying sound judgment and creating practical solutions.
  • A track record of improving the quality of work within a team or organisation.
  • Strong learning agility, organisational skills, and financial literacy.
  • Understanding of the machinery of government (desirable but not essential).
  • Personal integrity, sound judgment, and an honest and ethical approach.
