Payroll & HR Coordinator
Archway Recruitment
We're excited to be partnering with a highly reputable, kiwi-owned company who are recruiting for a newly created role as a Payroll and HR Coordinator.
About The Role
This is a hands-on, sole charge payroll role with HR support responsibilities, supporting 140 staff (and counting) across multiple New Zealand entities. You will own the end-to-end payroll function, supported by an approachable Finance Manager and a strong HR lead. While payroll is the core focus, you will also provide administrative support across the employee lifecycle, making this a varied and engaging position for someone who enjoys being close to the business. Your key responsibilities include:
- Running accurate fortnightly payroll across multiple NZ entities, including salaries, commissions, leave, expenses and allowances
- Managing PAYE, payday filing and IRD compliance
- Handling payroll queries with a high level of confidentiality and integrity
- Completing payroll reconciliations, journals and month end reporting
- Maintaining payroll and employee records, largely spreadsheet based
- Providing HR administration support including contracts, onboarding and offboarding
- Identifying and implementing payroll, reporting and process improvements
- Contributing to future payroll system and expense automation projects
The payroll environment is currently legacy based, with a heavy reliance on spreadsheets. There is genuine appetite and support to modernise, improve reporting, automate processes and eventually move to a cloud-based payroll system. This role will play a key part in shaping that future state, and will be a great fit if you thrive in providing meaningful system and process improvement!
About You
As such, what they're after is someone who brings a decent grounding in payroll, and a growth mindset. They're happy to train and develop you, and don't need the HR experience, but they need you to be motivated to grow yourself, and improve the function. Other than that, the experience they'd ideally be looking for is:
- Solid grounding of NZ payroll. Sole charge experience is ideal, but not a requirement.
- Intermediate Excel skills and confidence working in spreadsheets. By intermediate, we mean comfort in a spreadsheet and doing formulas. Pivot tables and v look ups are a bonus, but not expected!
- Comfort working with a legacy desktop payroll system, and an enthusiasm to support a systems upgrade in the next 2-3 years!
- Someone proactive who enjoys improving systems and processes
- Strong attention to detail and a high level of integrity
- Good communication skills and a collaborative working style
The Benefits
Benefits
This is a great role for someone who is keen to grow their career across payroll and HR, wants stability, but also wants the chance to improve and modernise a function without having to fight the business to do it! On top of that, you'll attain the following benefits:
- On‑site car parking
- Health insurance
- Monthly peer‑nominated customer service awards with financial incentives.
- Monthly company‑paid lunches when targets are hit, which they usually are!
- In-house training and support! Whilst you are sole-charge, there is other capability in-house, meaning training will be provided, and you will be able to take leave with the reassurance of back up internally!
