What You'll Do
We're looking for a Commercial Strategy Manager to join our Enterprise Pricing & Commercial Strategy team. This is a broad commercial strategy role. Your primary focus will be helping turn product and commercial ideas into well-tested business cases, clear investment decisions, and well-governed execution plans.
Working across Sales, Product, Finance, Trading, Risk, and Strategy, you'll bring a structured, consulting-style approach to complex commercial questions. You'll support the development, assessment, prioritisation, and governance of product and commercial initiatives across Enterprise - using research, financial analysis, modelling, and commercial judgement to shape confident decisions.
The role will also support broader ad hoc commercial work as priorities evolve, including pricing analysis where required, while keeping the main emphasis on business casing, initiative governance, and commercial/product decision support.
Some Of Your Key Responsibilities Will Include
- Developing robust business cases for new product, commercial, and go-to-market initiatives, including opportunity sizing, financial modelling, scenario analysis, and risk/return assessment.
- Building and maintaining clear initiative governance disciplines, including decision gates, benefit tracking, milestone reporting, performance measures, and senior stakeholder updates.
- Carrying out customer, competitor, market, regulatory, and internal performance research to inform product and commercial strategy.
- Supporting prioritisation of the Enterprise product and commercial initiative pipeline, assessing strategic fit, customer value, financial impact, feasibility, and delivery risk.
- Translating complex analysis into clear recommendations, papers, and presentations that help senior stakeholders make informed decisions.
- Partnering across Sales, Product, Finance, Trading, Risk, and Strategy to align commercial intent, proposition design, delivery plans, and performance outcomes.
- Supporting go-to-market planning, commercial structures, contract considerations, pricing implications, and post-launch performance reviews.
- Providing ad hoc commercial analysis and decision support across the Enterprise business, including pricing support where required.
What You'll Bring
You'll be commercially sharp, analytical, curious, and confident working with senior stakeholders. You'll enjoy ambiguous problems, bring structure to complex information, and be able to turn insight into practical commercial recommendations.
- A relevant tertiary qualification in commerce, economics, finance, engineering, science, or a related discipline.
- 5+ years' experience in management consulting, corporate strategy, commercial strategy, product strategy, commercial analysis, or financial modelling.
- Strong financial modelling, business case development, and scenario analysis capability.
- Experience supporting commercial or product initiatives from idea through to investment decision, delivery governance, and benefits tracking.
- Strong research, problem-solving, and synthesis skills, with the ability to move from data to insight to action.
- Confidence preparing senior-level papers, recommendations, and presentations.
- The ability to manage competing priorities, influence stakeholders, and drive outcomes in a dynamic environment.
- An understanding of the New Zealand energy market, or the ability to quickly build sector knowledge.
- Pricing, revenue management, or margin analysis experience would be useful, but is not the primary focus of this role.
