Principal Asset Engineer

We are seeking a Principal Asset Engineer to provide leadership and end‑to‑end ownership of asset vesting and handover for Auckland Transport’s roading and structures projects. The role is accountable for ensuring asset acceptance processes are efficient, compliant, consistent, accurate, and timely, supporting the long‑term stewardship of the network.
Working closely with both internal and external stakeholders, you will lead the streamlining of vesting and handover processes and ensure asset data is captured, validated, and maintained to a high standard within asset management systems, in line with organisational policies and standards.
By maintaining high‑quality, reliable asset information, this role plays a critical part in enabling sound asset management decision‑making, supporting effective renewal and maintenance planning, and ensuring Auckland Transport can sustainably manage and invest in its transport network over time.
Key Tasks will include
- Work closely with asset providers to ensure data around new or changed assets is reliable, timely and accurately captured.
- Undertake reviewing and uploading data packages in appropriate AMS utilising Workstream Panels.
- Work closely with AC Regulatory Engineering and Consenting teams (AT and AC) to ensure an effective asset vesting process.
- Support the systems integration with wider Auckland Transport and Auckland Council GIS and other systems, to enhance decision making and reporting capabilities.
- Provide technical support to Asset Information team to enable the monitoring of changes in asset status, including new assets.
- Work closely with Asset Planning and Policy team to ensure the implementation of the agreed Policies, levels of service (SLA) and guidelines for asset ownership and maintenance responsibilities.
- Work closely with stakeholders regarding asset ownership, boundary/encroachment agreement, maintenance responsibilities etc. Respond to CRM/LGOIMA cases in a timely manner.
- Provide technical knowledge, support and advice relating to the implementation of significant changes, overseeing the development and execution of changes with robust transition strategies.

- Relevant degree in Engineering or equivalent.
- Member of relevant professional institution.
- 10 years' experience in transport asset management, preferably including some or all of roading, bridge, rail station, bus station or wharf structures.
- Proven experience in transport infrastructure
- Extensive knowledge of asset management tools (RAMM, SPM) and/or other asset systems
- Sound understanding of the works and processes of local government, including current and future business drivers and statutory requirements.
