We are seeking a Principal Transport Planner that will lead the development and delivery of transport system plans and business cases, to help create the critical pipeline of Auckland’s future transport projects. Our work is vital in addressing Auckland’s long term strategic transport system outcomes, considering multiple modes, existing assets, growth and development and changing level of service demand. Our work will inform AT's long-term investment needs and create a prioritised pipeline of investment, to be funded through the Regional Land Transport Plan or other funding mechanisms. Our team provides an essential leadership role across Auckland Transport, working closely with Auckland Council, NZTA and key stakeholders, grappling with complex transport challenges and identifying the preferred way forward.
Te Whiwhinga mahi - The Opportunity- Principal Transport Planner for Transport Investment
We are seeking two Principal Transport Planners to lead the development of business/investment cases and feasibility studies for the expansion/improvement of critical infrastructure and services to address gaps identified in the transport system, and deliver on the rail and rapid transit priorities outlined in the recently announced ‘City Deal’.
This role provides strong technical oversight and may include people leadership accountabilities. This role will delegate tasks and ensure the development of more junior transport planners in the team, as well as building strong relationships across Auckland Transport and our partners/stakeholders.
Nā tāu rourou | What will you bring?
- A relevant tertiary qualification in transport planning, urban planning, project management or related discipline
- Evidence of relevant, recent and continuing leadership, and professional learning and development
- Demonstrable experience in the delivery of business/investment cases
- Demonstrable understanding of the Decision Led Approach and Business Case processes
- Transport and public sector experience
- Demonstrable experience in cross-departmental / agency or complex / major projects
- Minimum five to ten years progressive leadership experience in feasibility studies, business case development, ideally relating to transport and funding.
- Demonstrable experience and understanding of transport planning, urban planning, local and central government policies
