Electrical Tutor
Skills Group
Skills Trades Training is looking for a registered electrician to join our Christchurch campus as an Electrical Tutor. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys mentoring apprentices, sharing practical knowledge, and helping the next generation of electricians build the skills, confidence, and qualifications they need for the industry.
You do not need to be an experienced teacher to apply. If you bring strong electrical industry experience, good communication skills, and a genuine interest in helping others succeed, we can support you to develop the teaching and assessment skills needed for the role.
What you will be doing
You’ll deliver practical, industry-relevant electrical training across apprentice block courses and industry programmes. You’ll work with learners in the classroom and workshop, coach them through technical concepts, assess their progress, and help them build confidence as they move toward completion.
You’ll also help maintain a safe, well-organised training environment and contribute to improving the way our programmes are delivered.
This Role Could Suit You If You Are
- A registered electrician who enjoys explaining the trade to others
- Someone who has mentored apprentices on site
- Ready for a more stable, people-focused role in the electrical industry
- Interested in moving into training, education, or workforce development
- Practical, organised, safety-focused, and confident communicating with a range of learners
Desired Skills And Experience

- Teaching or training experience is helpful, but not essential. If you do not yet hold unit standards 4098 or 11551, we can support you to work towards them as part of your development.
- A genuine interest in supporting apprentices and adult learners
- Good communication, coaching, and organisational skills
- Confidence using basic digital tools such as Microsoft Office
- A team-focused approach and commitment to health and safety
