At Waipuna Hospice, we’re all about delivering compassionate end-of-life care across the Western Bay of Plenty. Our goal is to deliver a responsive, compassionate, and person-centred care to individuals living with life-limiting illnesses, which is often in their homes. We also have a welcoming inpatient unit in Te Puna for those who need extra support.

We’re a charity powered by passion, courage, teamwork, and community spirit. Our funding is made possible by our fundraising heroes, and our busy charity shops with partial support from the government.

About The Role

As Assistant Shop Manager, you’ll play a key leadership role in a high‑volume charity retail environment - working alongside the Shop Manager to ensure the shop runs efficiently day to day. In this fast‑paced environment, efficient stock flow and pricing, visual merchandising and customer care are all critical to optimising funding for our vital community work.

This hands‑on role, in a dynamic, 7-day work environment will suit a leader who enjoys being on the shop floor, juggling priorities, and keeping momentum high. The shop is supported by paid staff and volunteers and you’ll create a positive, inclusive team culture where people feel valued, supported, and clear about expectations - even on the busiest days.

The key tasks of the position include:

  • Managing day-to-day operations of the shop and supporting the Shop Manager
  • Stock management including presentation, creative merchandising, pricing, and storage
  • Management of volunteers to ensure a smooth workflow
  • Generating appeal and demand of donated goods to increase revenue growth
  • Ensuring legal and organisational requirements are met
  • Enhancing the profile of Waipuna Hospice

The hours are Sunday 9.00am - 4.30pm, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday 8.00am - 4.30pm

Additional hours may be required from time to time to cover annual leave and sickness.

ABOUT YOU - Who We’re Really Looking For

You are a people‑first manager with a solid retail background who thinks creatively, works collaboratively and solves problems rationally. You might come from mainstream retail or charity retail - what matters most is you have the skills to hit the ground running.
