We are looking for a highly skilled Tunnel Manager to oversee day-to-day operations, safety, compliance and lifecycle performance of a major tunnel asset. In this role, you will be the technical and operational leader ensuring the tunnel meets all performance, reliability, and safety obligations across its entire lifecycle.
This is a rare opportunity to steward one of the region’s most significant transport assets, ensuring safe journeys for the public and excellence in operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and maintain the Safety File and ensure all tunnel operating procedures are current and effective.
- Lead tunnel operational readiness and hold accountability for the design–operations interface, ensuring operational, safety, maintainability and regulatory requirements are embedded throughout design development, testing, commissioning and handover.
- Act as the Design Interface owner, accountable for ensuring design decisions align with operational, safety, maintenance, emergency response and whole-of-life tunnel requirements, and for resolving design/operations interface risks.
- Oversee tunnel system performance across fire safety, M&E systems, ventilation, SCADA, ITS and control room interfaces.
- Govern statutory compliance including inspection, testing and Building Warrant of Fitness (BWoF) requirements.
- Coordinate incident response, emergency exercises, and post-incident investigations.
- Lead lifecycle planning, risk assessments and whole-of-life decision-making for tunnel assets.
- Collaborate closely with ATOC/control room teams to manage operations, availability targets and degraded-mode scenarios.
- Support sustainability, security, digital systems and continuous improvement initiatives across the tunnel environment.
About You
- You bring deep experience with tunnel operations or similarly complex, safety-critical infrastructure.
- Strong technical knowledge across M&E systems, ventilation, fire safety, tunnel controls and ITS technologies.
- Proven leadership in safety, emergency response, and operational decision-making.
- The ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams and build effective relationships with regulators, emergency services and technical specialists.
- A strategic mindset with strengths in lifecycle planning, risk management and operational governance.
- This role suits a calm, confident operator who can lead under pressure and ensure world-class tunnel performance.
