Herd Manager

We are seeking a motivated and experienced Herd Manager to join our farming business located in Invercargill, NZ. You will become part of an enthusiastic team in a supportive working environment. The role offers rostered work hours with a minimum of 30 hours per week guaranteed. The pay will be $30 - $40 per hour depending on the experience.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

• Manage livestock breeding programs and the rearing of young livestock

• Identify livestock health and nutrition issues

• Supervise animal health and welfare programs

• Establish and manage pastures and fodder crops for livestock production, and identify plant health and nutrition problems

• Develop and implement livestock feeding plans

• Implement and maintain biosecurity management measures

• Manage water supply and irrigation systems

• Supervise farming operations including herding, catching, drenching, and milking livestock

• Oversee general farming activities such as maintenance and cleaning of livestock housing and other farm infrastructure

• Supervise work routines and provide training to farm workers

• Operate, supervise, and maintain farm technology systems, including data collection and analysis tools

Requirements

• At least 2 years of relevant work experience, or a Level 4 or higher qualification in a relevant field

• Willingness to learn, as on-the-job training will also be provided
