Looking for your next big move in electrical infrastructure? At Downer, we’re delivering the projects that keep New Zealand powered — and we’re on the lookout for an experienced Cable Jointer to be part of it.
In this role, you’ll work on critical Generation assets across the country, trusted to deliver safe, high‑quality outcomes in complex environments. No two days are the same, and your work will genuinely make a difference.
What you’ll be doing day to day
- Installing, replacing and repairing underground distribution, transmission and generation assets
- Jointing and terminating XLPE and PILC cables up to 33kV
- Assembling and working on panels, junction boxes, RMUs and transformers
- Completing cable testing and accurately recording pre‑ and post‑work results
- Applying correct isolation and earthing procedures — safety always comes first
- Completing as‑builts and regulatory documentation to a high standard Working closely with customers, partners and your wider team to deliver great outcomes
This role sits within our Roslyn, Palmerston North team, delivering service and construction works across multiple sites nationwide. You’ll be supported while travelling with penal rates, allowances, accommodation and meals provided .
You’ll join a tight‑knit team that works hard, backs each other, and enjoys the variety that comes with working across different projects and locations.

As a qualified Cable Jointer who takes pride in your craft and your safety record, you’ll bring:
- EWRB Cable Jointer registration/licence (essential)
- National Certificate in Electricity Supply (Cable Jointer – High Voltage) Level 4
- Solid experience jointing XLPE and PILC cables up to 33kV
- A clean Class 1 driver’s licence (Class 2 or 4 an advantage) Strong working knowledge of SMEI and Safe Practices for Low Voltage Electrical Work
This role suits someone who enjoys travel and variety. You’ll be comfortable working away from home on both short‑ and long‑term assignments across New Zealand, including major renewable energy projects.
