Development Manager, Massey University Foundation

Position Purpose: The role of the Development Manager is pivotal within the Massey
University Foundation. It is responsible for developing significant
philanthropic opportunities in support of the University’s strategic
priorities. This will be achieved by planning and implementing fundraising
initiatives, as well as identifying, soliciting, and cultivating relationships
with external stakeholders, alumni, donors, industries, trusts and
foundations, granting agencies and staff.

Accountabilities
Fundraising
Identify, solicit, • Be responsible for soliciting major gifts and contributing a minimum of

  • Support alumni and community engagement projects when appropriate

ethical standards.

Relationship
Management • Develop relationships with prospects and identify donors’ areas of

interest.

  • Gather and interpret a range of data on prospects and donors.
  • Develop and implement donor cultivation, solicitation and stewardship

strategies for agreed fundraising projects, business partnerships and
major donors.

  • Develop and deliver feasibility studies and cases for support as and
when required.
  • Work alongside colleagues, alumni and ambassadors to prioritise
prospect lists.
  • Attend appropriate stewardship events as appropriate, to
cultivate and steward prospective and current major donors of the
University.
  • Ensure Raiser’s Edge database is updated and managed in a timely and
effective manner.
  • Identify supporters willing to support agreed fundraising goals with
information, introductions and advocacy, and match with prospective
donors and organisations.

Strategic Planning • Contribute to the plans as and when required by the Director

Development.

  • Be responsible for the implementation and delivery of the plan as
directed by the Director Development.
  • Read and understand the Foundation’s constitution and policy
documents.

Communications • Support and cultivate relationships (internal and external) with timely,
relevant and targeted content and communications.

  • Assist in preparing fundraising collateral e.g. case for support, feasibility
studies, direct mail, and proposals.
  • Contribute ideas and content to Massey’s internal and external
communications including e-newsletters and publications to alumni,
staff, students and other stakeholders.

Team Contribution • Attend regular meetings of the Development Office and work closely

with the Alumni Relations team.

  • Undertake projects as directed by the Director Development

Qualifications and Experience

Qualifications: A degree qualification is essential.

Requirements: Valid New Zealand driver’s licence

Experience: • 3-5 years fundraising experience (preferably in a university
environment) or related not-for-profit

  • An excellent track record in securing major gifts
  • Demonstrable relationship management skills
  • Demonstrable written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrable strategic and operational planning in a large,
complex organisation
  • The ability to use the usual suite of office technology (MS word,
Excel PowerPoint)
  • Experience using Raisers Edge will be advantageous
