Job Description: CampusCare Assistant
To support the Campus Services portfolio through the delivery of

Position Purpose:
operational services to the campus. Specifically focusing on security,
parking and traffic, while supporting the wider CampusCare team with
additional day-to-day tasks such as cleaning, waste management,
portering, mailroom, room set up, event support etc, and thereby achieve
positive campus experiences for our staff and students.

About this area The Estates Management team is focused on maintaining and operating
the amenities, buildings and grounds of Massey's three campuses. It also
runs the Capital Projects (building related) for these campuses. The team
is made up of about 120 members who all play vital roles in ensuring a
positive student and staff experience. This role supports teaching and
research outcomes by ensuring that the Campus facilities and services
meet the needs of the University community.

Accountabilities
Complete regular patrols of all Massey University environs to ensure that a

Physical Patrols and
safe and secure environment is provided for all users of the sites and to

ensure that all Massey University security and traffic regulations are being

adhered to.

  • Document and record incidents and events as required.
  • Regular monitoring of CCTV and Access Control systems
  • Complete regular security patrols of campus sites, by foot and vehicle,

to ensure all users and property are safe and secure.

  • Respond to requests for assistance in a timely manner.
  • Respond to building alarm activations in a timely manner
  • Stop, identify and question any unknown or suspicious persons within

the University environs.

  • Report any damage to security infrastructure as soon as possible.
  • Implement the parking enforcement process in a fair and equitable way

to enforce the University parking regulations and procedures.

  • Complete regular traffic patrols of both sites to ensure all Massey
University and New Zealand Road Traffic Regulations are being adhered
to. ( Manawatu Campus)

Parking and Road
Infrastructure • Assist with the installation of road signage, including road marking, and
Maintenance provide general maintenance of electronic and mechanical parking

devices situated on the Manawatū and Wellington campuses.

  • Install vehicle counting devices as required.
  • Installation, removal, and maintenance of road signage.
  • Assist with road marking services for campuses as required.
  • Changing batteries, replacing paper, and cleaning ticketing machines as

required.

Health & Safety
  • Comply with all relevant legislation and University Health and Safety

policy.

  • Ensure that vehicles are used in a manner that is consistent with all
relevant university Health and Safety policies and procedures and
reports any maintenance issues in a timely manner.
  • Identify and report incidents and near misses appropriately and engage
in routine monitoring and identification of hazards in the workplace.
  • Demonstrate appropriate care and concern for the health and safety of
self, campus population and visitors at all times.
  • Contribute to emergency management preparedness and provide
support to the campus Incident Management Team as directed and
when required.

  • Assist in the response to all on-campus emergencies, incidents and
events in a manner that is professional, proactive and supports the
policies and procedures of Massey University.
  • Be available to render first aid as required to all campus users.
  • Provide support to emergency services on campus.
  • Provide support to Emergency Warden in the discharge of their
duties.
  • Assist with crowd control as required.
  • Ensure all fire exits and egress paths are free of obstruction at all times
within the predetermined building areas.

  • Support the delivery of a range of functions (including but not limited
to) security, emergency wardens, cleaning, waste disposal, recycling,
confidential waste, mail sorting & delivery, logistic support, pest
control, emergency management, and event support.
  • Work closely with internal staff and/or contractors in the successful
delivery of Campus Services outcomes.
  • Contribute to the sustainability of the campus including adherence to
any requirements of recycling activities and waste disposal and practical
monitoring of unnecessary energy use.
  • Lock and unlock rooms and buildings as required and as directed.
  • Maintain the campus environment by reporting any incidents of fly-

tipping, damage, vandalism, maintenance and repairs to the
Operational Support team in a timely manner.

  • Check general teaching spaces on a weekly basis and at the beginning
of each semester for the following:
  • cleanliness, general damage, furniture set up
  • ensure egress routes and entrances/exits are clear and

unobstructed

  • ensure correct furniture and teaching supplies are present and
relocate/replenish as required
  • clean whiteboards if required
  • Review the condition of significant campus entrance and wayfinding

signage and wash and clean as necessary.

  • Undertake regular utility meter readings.
  • Provide support and assistance to university staff, students and tenants

on campus with a range of tasks including the relocation of furniture
and equipment using a combination of in-house staff and removals
contractors.

  • Support furniture movements and tasking from the MUTU system.
Dismantle/reassemble furniture, when required and appropriate,
assembling flat pack furniture and installing and removing whiteboards,
pinboards, shelving units etc to a high standard.

  • Review noticeboards and facilitate the removal of any expired,
offensive or unapproved material in a timely manner as requested by
the Manager Campus Services or Supervisor – CampusCare.

Customer service • Provide all Massey University users with an effective and efficient

service that allows them to enjoy their time on our sites, in a safe and
secure manner.

  • Provide all users of Massey University sites with assistance as and when
required in a timely, courteous and helpful manner e.g. provide
information regarding locations of departments and sections, minor
vehicle problems, etc
  • Take a proactive approach to assisting users.

Events • Participate in and assist with the delivery of university and
departmental events and conferences including deployment of in-



house staff to assist with setting up and dismantling for major functions

including but not limited to graduation, exams and University Open
Days.

  • Where required, support events through the provision of security and
traffic management services.
  • Take a proactive, timely, courteous and helpful manner to assisting
users.
  • Provide oversight of approved Traffic Management Plans.
  • Adhere to relevant legislation and University policy.
  • Provide assistance with crowd control as required.

Locksmithing

  • Cutting and allocation of keys, maintenance, and repairs as directed by
the Supervisor – CampusCare
  • Provide support in changing locks.

Business systems • Operate and support the relevant University’s business systems such as,

but not limited to, Maximo, intruder alarms, duress alarms, security
cameras, bully bollards and traffic barriers and any other system.

  • Adhere to procedures.
  • Operate the software and equipment in a professional manner.
  • Retain confidentially.
  • Report all faults and concerns in a timely manner.

General • Undertake other tasks and duties as directed and when required.

  • Assist the New Zealand Police with properly authorised and presented
enquiries.
  • Administration of keys.

Qualifications and Experience

Qualifications:
  • Current clean manual car Class 1 driver’s licence.

  • HT licence or the ability to achieve this within 6 months of
commencing employment if requested to do so.
  • Forklift licence and OSH certificate is desirable.
  • Certificate of Approval under the Private Security Personnel Licensing
Authority,.
  • Current Traffic Control qualifications or the ability to achieve this
within 6 months of commencing employment if requested to do so.
  • Current First Aid certificate or the ability to achieve this within 6
months of commencing employment.

Experience: • 5+ Years of experience as a security officer

  • Experience within the facilities management sector in a hospital or
educational setting is desirable.
  • Emergency management, civil defence and/or security are desirable.
  • Previous experience in a trade-related role is desirable.
  • Demonstrable experience working with customers is essential.
  • Previous experience cutting keys would be desirable.

for Safety Checks of Children’s Workers) Regulations 2015 is required.
Part of this process includes a requirement to pass the police vetting part of

the safety check.
