About The Role
The Enterprise Technology & Software Engineering team connect and build the technology tools that help our group work smarter, faster, and more efficiently.
We achieve this by focusing on the configuration, development and continuous improvement of our Enterprise Technology platforms, our approach is seamless and iterative, prioritising agility and adaptability. By integrating modern engineering approaches and fostering a culture of constant innovation, we ensure that our core building blocks not only support current needs but also scales effortlessly for future growth.
The Engineering Manager, Platforms is responsible for building and leading the platforms team, using existing technologies to keep our corporate solutions delivering what is needed today while accelerating our use of new technologies to drive business outcomes. Working closely with other teams and business, providing the technical leadership in managing and utilizing our existing assets to align our engineering strategy and roadmaps.
This role will require someone with demonstrated experience managing complex IT solutions and platforms. Working with a team of highly skilled engineers, you will need to step outside of specific technologies to drive our direction. You will work closely with our partners and leverage their expertise to bring innovative ways of working to contribute to the success of Ampol. This role will provide Ampol with a high performing team executing a clear strategy for integrating systems and partners.

You Will Have The Opportunity To
- Lead a team of highly focused and innovative engineers to ensure critical systems remain available and resilient.
- Mentor, grow, and support team members while effectively managing risk across the group.
- Drive the transition from batch-based systems to modern, event-driven architectures.
- Maintain and strengthen vendor relationships, negotiate and manage support contracts, and ensure alignment with Ampol's procurement processes.
- Champion innovation and experimentation across technology teams, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
- Set and drive the strategic technology roadmap for platforms and integrations, in line with business goals
- Ensure compliance with Ampols security and privacystandards across both internal and external teams and bring experience working within Agile and Waterfall delivery environments.
What you’ll bring to Z
- A background as a Backend/Platform/SRE Engineer, with experience managing teams through organisational change
- Proven ability to build and lead high-performing technical teams, manage IT budgets and resources, and deliver results across both large and small organizations.
- Skilled in strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, and vendor management, with a track record of managing complex programs and conflicting priorities.
- Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to build trust across technical and non-technical teams.
