Mō te tūnga | About the Role
We're on the lookout for a Communications Specialist to join our collaborative and purpose-driven Marketing and Communications team in Wellington. This is a pivotal role, focused on storytelling, media engagement, and stakeholder communication that drives our reputation and supports our fundraising and marketing goals.
You’ll be the voice behind the brand, crafting compelling narratives, managing media relationships, and developing content that resonates with our diverse audiences. From writing web copy and media releases to shaping organisational key messages and supporting internal communication, no two days will be the same.
In this role, you’ll:
- Craft compelling narratives that highlight student outcomes and drive support
- Write and edit a wide range of content including blogs, social posts, website updates, reports, and media statements
- Develop and implement proactive media and communication plans
- Support internal and external stakeholder engagement through effective, on-brand messaging
- Contribute to marketing, fundraising, and partnership goals through aligned communication strategy
- Champion and embed best-practice communication across the organisation
Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and Experience
We’re looking for a versatile communications professional who thrives on collaboration and has a natural flair for storytelling. You’ll bring:
- A tertiary qualification in communications, journalism, or a related field
- At least 4 years' experience in a communications or media role
- Demonstrated experience managing media relationships
- Excellent writing and editing skills tailored to diverse audiences
- The ability to think strategically while delivering high-quality, hands-on content
- Experience working in not-for-profit, youth-focused, or charitable organisations (desirable)
- A commitment to cultural inclusivity and the integration of te ao Māori in your work
