Enviro NZ is seeking a dynamic, experienced, and highly skilled individual to provide legal support for its business as maternity leave cover for the General Counsel (9 - 12 months months). Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer and leading a team of experienced legal and compliance professionals, you will be responsible for providing a full spectrum of legal, regulatory, risk and compliance services to the wider business.

The successful candidate will be a well-organised and self-driven team player, with experience in other in-house legal roles at a senior level.

As a senior legal professional, you will provide sound and timely legal advice and guidance to internal stakeholders and colleagues on a wide range of matters, ensuring the organisation's compliance with NZ law.

Specific Responsibilities Will Include The Following

  • Provide expert legal counsel on a wide range of matters related to commercial contracts, property, privacy, competition, health and safety, environment, construction, acquisitions, staff relations and innovative transformation and technology projects.
  • Develop and implement effective legal strategies to manage litigation risks and disputes, including managing outside counsel where required.
  • Lead the preparation and review of legal documents such as contracts, agreements, policies, and procedures.
  • Keep abreast of legislative changes that may affect the company and its employees, providing proactive legal advice.
  • Develop and deliver training to management and employees on relevant legal topics.
  • Assist in corporate governance matters.

This role will see you engaging daily with various stakeholders internally and externally in an efficient, professional and timely manner while always being polite, respectful and customer and safety focussed.

The Ideal Candidate Will

  • Be a qualified lawyer with NZ practising certificate and 15+ years post admission experience, including work within a similar or senior in-house legal role for a medium to large sized organisation.
  • Have sound knowledge of NZ legislation and framework across multiple disciplines.
  • Be a team player, eager to learn the business and maintain the legal team's strong relationships across key stakeholders.
  • Be respectful of others, approachable and willing to get involved in all aspects of legal support required by the business.
  • Have strong communication and negotiation skills and confidence in working with a range of people at all levels within the organisation.
  • Have high attention to detail with exceptional written and verbal communication skills
