Role Summary
We are seeking a skilled Financial Accountant to join our Auckland-based team, supporting the month-end close process and ensuring the accuracy and completeness of financial records. This role involves working closely with the Finance Manager and other accountants to deliver timely financial closes across key areas including cash and accrual accounting, investment and tax accounting, reinsurance reconciliation, and related financial controls.
You will be responsible for maintaining detailed account reconciliations across multiple data sources and accounting bases, performing daily bank reconciliations, preparing reinsurance bordereaux reports, and supporting various finance tasks. The role requires a strong understanding of financial reporting cycles, regulatory standards in Australia and New Zealand, and internal control best practices.
The ideal candidate holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, with CPA, CMA, or equivalent certification preferred, and brings at least five years of experience in finance or audit—ideally within life insurance or a complex financial services environment. Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and proficiency in Microsoft Office, ERP systems, and financial modelling tools are essential, along with a high level of integrity and professionalism.

- Responsible for timely and accurate financial close
- Responsible for maintaining detailed and accurate account reconciliations across multiple data source and multiple accounting basis
- Daily bank reconciliations
- Reinsurance bordereaux reporting
- Additional daily/month end finance tasks upon request
To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate the following:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field; CPA, CMA, or equivalent certification preferred.
- At least 5 years of progressive experience in finance, accounting, or audit, preferably in a financial service (Life Insurance) and complex organization
- Strong knowledge of the financial reporting cycle, accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and internal control best practices for the Australia and New Zealand business
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, ERP systems, and financial modelling tools.
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and ethical standards
