Te Tūranga | About the role:

Silver Fern Farms has an exciting opportunity for a detail-driven person to join our team as a Livestock Planner. Based within our Supply Chain group, this role is central to the effective execution of the livestock plan. This role, done well, ensures we have the right livestock, in the right place, at the right time.

This intermediate-level position plays an important role in the coordination and communication between our livestock planning, regional livestock, production planning, and site teams. The responsibilities span national-level livestock allocation through to regional execution, enabling the smooth running of our weekly and monthly intake plans.

This is a hands-on and highly collaborative role where you'll also be asked to maintain critical master data, contribute to continuous improvement, and provide on-call support where needed.

This is a fixed-term role covering a 2-year period to allow continuity and cover across the business as we implement new processes and align to the S&OP Strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver the national weekly allocation of livestock space to regions, ensuring alignment with S&OP priorities
  • Monitor and track livestock intake performance across time horizons, identifying root causes for variation
  • Partner with regional teams and sites to ensure intake plans are clearly communicated and executed
  • Manage changes to livestock programmes and address deviations from plan in real-time
  • Maintain and enhance key data sets in the Pasture system including logical chains and time slots
  • Support issue resolution, system testing, and improvement of planning tools and processes
  • Contribute to livestock forecasting, capacity planning, and communication with production teams.

We’ve found that people with who succeed in the Livestock Planner role have backgrounds that blend agricultural/livestock knowledge, supply chain planning, and strong coordination skills.

You’ll ideally also bring commercial acumen, and an energetic, accurate approach to operational delivery, and be someone who can pivot quickly in response to changing conditions – all while keeping stakeholders updated and informed.

Other Experience And Attributes That We Look For Include

  • Experience in the meat or agriculture sector with an understanding of livestock seasonality and stock types
  • Familiarity with livestock planning principles and experience balancing supply and plant capacity
  • Strong communication skills with confidence liaising across multiple internal and external stakeholders
  • High computer literacy including Excel, PowerPoint, and ideally experience with livestock planning systems
  • Excellent attention to detail, with a continuous improvement mindset
  • Willingness to provide after-hours support and take ownership of issue resolution
