Bring your spark, lead with purpose and make an impact

Looking for a role where culture actually matters, people come first, and fun is part of the job description? Welcome to Vitruvius, where we believe that great people build great companies – and we’re looking for a People & Culture Lead to help us grow, evolve and thrive.

This isn’t just an HR job. It’s a leadership role that touches every part of the business – from championing wellbeing and culture to fine tuning how we work behind the scenes. You’ll be working side by side with the Managing Director, shaping the future of our business, and making sure Vitruvius continues to be an amazing place to work.

Why Vitruvius

We’re a proudly Kiwi owned consultancy, bringing together bright minds in civil, rail, water engineering, transport design, and land development. Our size is our superpower, we’re small enough that everyone has a voice, big enough to make waves across Aotearoa.

What sets us apart?

  • We genuinely live our values — like Continually improving and Enjoy the Adventure.
  • We offer flexible working, wellness perks, ongoing development and even potential shareholding.
  • We know work-life balance isn’t a buzzword — it’s a priority.
  • Want a change of scenery? We offer relocation packages for the right candidate.

The Role: A bit of everything, with a whole lot of impact

As our People & Culture Lead, you’ll sit on the Senior Leadership Team and take the reins on all things people, performance, operational support, and culture.

You’ll lead a talented team of administration support pros, work directly with the MD, and drive initiatives that shape how we grow and operate, all the while keeping people at the heart of everything.

You’ll lead the way in:

  • Creating and rolling out a people strategy that supports growth and inspires high performance.
  • Coaching and supporting leaders across the business.
  • Building capability through great onboarding, development pathways, and leadership programmes.
  • Making sure our culture stays vibrant, inclusive and aligned with our values.
  • Overseeing admin, systems and data, and internal operations — from policies to IT to fleet management.
  • Driving health, safety and wellbeing, and keeping us sharp on compliance and care.
  • Managing external suppliers and service partners — think IT, insurance, facilities, and more.
  • Being a key player in strategic business planning and continuous improvement.

What you’ll bring

You’re a people-first leader with a curious mind, a collaborative spirit, and a drive to make work better for everyone. You thrive in fast-paced, ever-evolving environments and know how to balance strategic vision with hands-on delivery.

Your toolkit includes:

  • 8+ years of experience in HR or business leadership roles
  • 5+ years leading people and teams
  • Strong commercial awareness and operational know-how
  • Proven ability to influence and support senior leaders
  • An HR or Business Management degree (or similar)
  • Knowledge of NZ employment law and HSW best practices
  • A sense of humour, a love of collaboration, and a bias for action

Bonus points for:

  • Experience in consultancy, technical, or engineering environments
  • Familiarity with ISO9001 or similar QA systems
  • Experience on an SLT or reporting to a Board

Ready to lead the adventure?

At Vitruvius, we’re not just building transport and infrastructure solutions, we’re building a team where people are supported to do their best work and enjoy the journey along the way.

If this sounds like your kind of gig, we’d love to hear from you, even if you don’t tick every single box.
