About the Role

Our client is a values-driven public sector organisation in the process of establishing a dedicated PMO function to provide structure, governance, and assurance across their portfolio of work.

This is a pivotal opportunity to shape and lead a newly established PMO function. As PMO Manager, you’ll bring a clear understanding of what ‘good’ looks like in both project management and PMO maturity—and the ability to scale those frameworks to suit a mid-sized, public sector environment.

You’ll provide guidance and assurance to senior stakeholders and project boards, offering calm, pragmatic leadership drawn from experience. You'll manage a team of four direct reports—Business Analysts, Programme Administrator, and a Test Lead—along with contractor support on a digital workplace modernisation programme. This is a hands-on role that blends people leadership, stakeholder engagement, and practical problem solving.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities
  • Establish and embed fit-for-purpose PMO practices, frameworks, and governance
  • Provide assurance reporting and guidance to project boards and senior leadership
  • Lead and mentor a small internal team and manage external project resources
  • Oversee a portfolio that includes current digital transformation initiatives
  • Build trusted relationships across the business to support successful project delivery
Skills and Experience Required
  • Prior experience setting up or significantly maturing a PMO function
  • Practical knowledge of project management and portfolio best practice
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and assurance reporting skills
  • Able to scale delivery expectations and processes to suit a smaller organisation
  • Proven leadership of direct reports and contractor teams in a delivery context
