We are proud to be partnering with Rotorua Community Hospice Trust, a respected and highly valued not-for-profit organisation, to recruit an outstanding Chief Executive Officer to lead their team (clinical and operational) and ensure the continued delivery of palliative care and wrap around services to the Rotorua community.

This is a rare opportunity for a compassionate, strategic, and experienced health sector leader to drive both operational excellence and sustainability, to deliver community care by fostering whanaungatanga, and manaakitanga. Fostering the collaborative model of care with external health professionals, their service provides whānau orientated support both before, and after death through a well-recognised, and awarded model of care unique to our region.

About the Role
Our client provides vital palliative care services to patients and their whānau, supporting them through some of life’s most challenging times. The Chief Executive Officer will be responsible for the overall leadership of the organisation, ensuring its services are delivered with compassion and professionalism, maintaining tikanga, while ensuring financial sustainability and fostering a collaborative culture.

Reporting to the Board of Trustees, the Chief Executive Officer will lead strategy development and implementation, oversee financial and operational management, and play a key role in community engagement and fundraising activities. The successful candidate will continue to position RCHT as a charity of choice and a trusted partner in the Rotorua community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders including but not limited to Health New Zealand – Te Whatu Ora, Hospice New Zealand, funders, donors, local iwi, and the wider healthcare sector.
  • Lead and inspire the organisation to deliver exceptional care and service.
  • Develop and implement strategic plans in collaboration with the Board.
  • Drive and oversee successful fundraising initiatives and the securing of sustainable funding sources.
  • Ensure strong financial and resource/asset management.
  • Foster a collaborative, supportive, and high-performing team culture.
  • Protect the health and wellbeing of the team.
  • Advocate for the organisation and represent it effectively in the community.

About You
You will be a compassionate, dynamic, and results-oriented leader with:
  • Proven leadership experience at a senior level, ideally within the health sector.
  • A strong track record in securing funding, developing donor and community relationships, and delivering fundraising success.
  • Exceptional people and relationship management skills, with the ability to engage, inspire, and lead teams and stakeholders.
  • Financial acumen and commercial literacy to ensure sound management of organisational resources.
  • Experience working with a Board and understanding of good governance practices.
  • High emotional intelligence, authenticity, and a commitment to delivering services that uphold the dignity and mana of patients and whānau.
  • A values-driven leadership style that aligns with the compassionate ethos of Hospice care.
