About The Role
Join Genesis Energy as a Community Engagement Advisor and play a pivotal role in driving impactful community investment and local and responsive partnership initiatives across the regions where we operate. This dynamic role focuses on delivering transformative education and employment opportunities for young people through a range of Ngā Ara - education and pathways programmes, including scholarships, internships, and work experience placements.
You will be the key driver behind supporting site-specific community engagement strategies, collaborating closely with internal teams and a diverse range of external partners such as Mana whenua, kura kaupapa Māori, community groups, local authorities, and government agencies. Your work will support Genesis' Community Investment Strategy by fostering strong relationships, ensuring alignment with Māori values, and promoting sustainable, community-led outcomes that benefit both people and place. Reporting to the Community Liaison Manager, you'll lead and support initiatives that strengthen Genesis' role as a trusted partner within the communities we serve.
Please note that this is a full-time, permanent role that will require regular regional travel to our generating sites and may involve some weekend work supporting engagement initiatives. The role is expected to be primarily based in Hamilton or Huntly.
About You
You bring a genuine passion and commitment to community and youth development, combined with practical experience in facilitating rangatahi kaupapa and nurturing internal and external relationships and partnerships, preferably with Kura Kaupapa Māori, Iwi entities, education providers and community organisations. Your knowledge of Te Reo me ona Tikanga Māori is reflected in how you embed those values authentically in your work. With excellent communication skills and the ability to influence across diverse audiences, you thrive when building collaborative relationships that create real, lasting impact.

To Be Successful In This Role, You Will Have
- A tertiary qualification in education, social science, community or youth development, business, communications or equivalent work experience.
- Proven experience in community engagement, youth development, and nurturing relationships with diverse stakeholders including community groups, education providers, Kura Kaupapa Māori and Mana Whenua.
- Strong understanding and application of Te Ao Māori principles and values.
- Exceptional communication and influencing skills, with the ability to engage through various channels.
- Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and projects with initiative, strategic thinking, and a focus on positive outcomes.
- Strong self-initiative and the ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision.
- Clean NZ Full Driver's Licence.
