Senior Procurement Consultant (11 months)

Contact Energy Ltd

Date: 10 hours ago
Contract type: Full time
Remote
Company Description

Here’s your chance to shape something big.

Contact Energy is entering an exciting new chapter — one that brings together the strengths of two major players in the energy sector. With the acquisition of Manawa Energy, we’re expanding our generation footprint and unlocking new opportunities to deliver for Aotearoa. And we’re looking for someone like you to help make it happen.

As a Senior Procurement Consultant, you’ll step into a role that’s all about impact. You’ll be supporting our sourcing and contract activity across the Generation & Renewable Growth portfolios.

It’s about building relationships, holding suppliers to account, and making sure every decision adds value. You’ll be trusted to lead sourcing & contracting activity, advise senior leaders, and bring a strategic lens to everything you do. And you’ll do it all while navigating one of the most exciting transitions in our company’s history.

Job Description

What your days might look like:

  • Leading end-to-end procurement processes with fairness, transparency, and a sharp eye for value.
  • Developing smart sourcing strategies that support our goals and reduce risk.
  • Creating and negotiating contracts that work for everyone — and making sure suppliers deliver on their promises.
  • Working closely with stakeholders across the business to understand what’s needed and how to get there.
  • Driving our ESG priorities, mitigating supply chain risks and finding ways to do things better.

Qualifications

You’ll thrive in this role if you:

  • Bring 10+ years of procurement experience, ideally in utilities, infrastructure, or large-scale projects. (If these were in renewable energy, particularly wind or solar, that’d be a big tick.)
  • Know how to balance commercial smarts with a practical, people-first, delivery focussed outcome.
  • Can switch gears easily — advising a junior analyst one moment and presenting to senior leaders the next.
  • Are curious, adaptable, and always looking for ways to improve how things are done.
  • Enjoy working in a fast-paced environment where no two days are the same.
  • MCIPS would be helpful but not mandatory.

Why this role matters:

This is a rare opportunity to be part of something transformative. You’ll be helping to integrate Manawa’s 27 operational sites into the Contact Energy whānau, shaping how we work with suppliers, and leaving a legacy that will last well beyond your contract.

You’ll also be joining a team that values flexibility, collaboration, and getting stuck in. We’re delivery-focussed, outcome-driven, and always up for a challenge — but we also know how to have a laugh and support each other along the way.

Sound like you?

If you’re ready to bring your procurement expertise to a role where you can make a real difference, we’d love to hear from you.

Additional Information

We support our people to work how, where and when works the best. This is an 11-month fixed term contract aligned with the Manawa Integration project that reports direct to our Head of Procurement & Strategic Contracting. She’s based in Wellington, so that would be the place to be if you enjoy regular in-person team time, however this role can be based anywhere provided you’re handy to one of ours or Manawa’s sites and we’re open to applications from all over Aotearoa.

Contact is not a place you’ll stagnate. We are growing and offer superb learning and development opportunities along with a bunch of other perks like a ‘Good to be Home’ annual payment toward your home set up & wellbeing, discounts on Contact Energy products, and more.

This ad will close automatically on Friday 11 July but we’re considering applications as they come in so hop to it if you're keen, or if there's something you’re curious to know first, reach out to Tash on [email protected].

Please note, only candidates with the right to live and work in New Zealand will be considered for this role.

Research shows that while men apply to jobs where they meet 60% of the criteria, women and those in underrepresented groups tend to only apply if they tick every box. We're not about box ticking, so if you think you have what it takes but don't meet everything stated above, please still get in touch. We'd love to kōrero.
