At the heart is our purpose which pushes us to do all we can to create a better future for our people, our communities, and Aotearoa New Zealand.

We're developing new renewable generation (e.g., onshore wind, geothermal, BESS), shifting the dial to lower New Zealand's carbon emissions and providing more renewable electricity to other sectors, like transport and process heat. We strongly support and play a leading role in New Zealand's successful transition to a low-carbon economy.

Our Opportunity:

In this role you will take a leadership role for end to end contracting and procurement activities within our Generation Development Team. This is an exciting time to join Mercury and an exciting team to be part of. You will work with a bunch of skilled and experienced individuals who are tasked with delivering renewable generation assets for New Zealand.

Your work will focus on developing supply chain and procurement strategies, leading contracting and procurement activities for major capital projects, and providing contract management support during construction. This is a role where you will need to think strategically; provide leadership and advice to a broad range of stakeholders; and deliver strong commercial outcomes across a programme of renewable projects at various stages of development.

There is flexibility for this role to be based in our Hamilton, Auckland and Tauranga offices. We offer a hybrid work environment which combines time in the office, flexibility to work from home, and visiting our sites and key stakeholders.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Develop and maintain professional, trusting relationships and networks that contribute to development objectives, including with key suppliers, consultants, and contractors
  • Maintain an in-depth understanding of potential vendors and suppliers that could support Mercury's Generation Development objectives
  • Lead and support the development of contracting strategies that consider project and programme objectives, risk and value allocation, and market / supplier dynamics
  • Lead and support the contracting and procurement process for major projects including tender document preparation, tender administration, contract negotiations, contract drafting, and confirming contracts
  • Develop and implement negotiation plans that are based on a clear understanding of stakeholders, strategic and tactical choices, and project and programme objectives

We are looking for:

  • Minimum of 10 to 15 years' experience on major capital projects ($100 mln+); with at least 5 years directly leading contracting, procurement, and commercial activities.
  • Tertiary qualification in business, engineering, law, project management or a similar field
  • Ability to work across multiple stakeholders and organise various work streams
  • In-depth knowledge of procurement principles, contract law, and contract management, with direct experience in contract negotiation and contract drafting
  • Experience in the management and administration of construction contracts
  • Strong preference for experience in utility-scale renewable projects, however experience in other industries will also be considered

Mercury offers (full benefits are listed on our Career Page):

  • Additional 5 days leave per annum (MyDays)
  • $400 one off tax-free payment towards setting up your home office
  • A diverse workplace where your unique abilities and talents will be recognised and encouraged
  • Annual salary reviews with excellent parental leave policy, with the option to purchase additional leave
  • The opportunities, career paths and facilities associated with working for one of New Zealand's largest multi-utility providers
  • Flexible working policy - The autonomy and trust to work flexibly from our purpose-built premises and from home, recognising the value of this flexibility in the modern world
  • Discounted health insurance and free life and income insurance
  • Excellent well-being programme including up to $100 annual check ups and confidential assistance programme
  • Gender affirmation leave and supportive bereavement leave to be taken when you lose anyone close to you, including your pet
