A rare opportunity has come up for a new South Island Planning Manager to join our national Planning team of approximately 60 planners. While we are open to suggestions, our preference is for this role to be based out of our Christchurch office. You will provide inspirational and empowering leadership across our Christchurch and Dunedin Planning Teams enabling our people to focus on achieving excellent client outcomes to make sustainability happen. Key focuses will be to strategically grow high performing planning teams across the South Island, including growing our existing planning teams in Christchurch and Dunedin, developing and expanding our planning presence in Nelson and supporting the expansion of new regional planning teams elsewhere across the South Island; business development to ensure our business and team continue to grow and thrive across the South Island; as well as technical excellence to ensure our teams deliver technically excellent work to our clients.

Responsibilities

As the South Island Planning Manager, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Whilst reporting the Planning Technical Discipline Manager you will manage a team of 6 consultants across our Christchurch and Dunedin offices
  • Mentor and lead staff in identifying areas for their own personal career development
  • Lead the delivery of projects to time and budget
  • Consistently achieving financial targets for the South Island Planning Team
  • Proactive collaboration with your team ensuring we are constantly meeting and exceeding performance target
  • Contribute to the growth and development of the Planning Team and workstream across the South Island leveraging your established connections and network keeping in line with SLR’S purpose and values
  • Assisting with the identification and recruitment of new professional staff in conjunction with the Planning Technical Discipline Manager

Skills And Experience

  • Typically, 15+ years’ experience in planning and resource management
  • Bachelors or Masters Degree in resource management planning
  • Experienced leader, leading leaders and a high performing team
  • Commercially savvy and has a following in the industry that consistently leads to significant repeat, advocacy or new business
  • Ability to build long-lasting trusted relationships
  • Consistently achieves targets and supports professional development
  • Effective communication with colleagues and clients
