We’re looking for a culturally grounded Kaiatawhai to join our team on a casual, as-needed basis, shifts would be weekdays, Monday to Friday. If you’re passionate about supporting Tangata Mauiui (Māori patients) and their whānau through a kaupapa Māori approach to care, we want to hear from you.

Based across sites on the North Shore, Central and West Auckland, this role works collaboratively with clinical and cultural teams, using a Whānau Ora model to ensure Māori receive safe, effective, and culturally responsive health services.

About the Role

  • Support Māori patients and their whānau in hospital or ambulatory services.
  • Promote Māori models of health – Whānau, Wairua, Tinana, Hinengaro.
  • Apply tikanga and lead cultural practices (e.g. pōwhiri, karakia, tangihanga).
  • Work closely with clinical teams and He Kāmaka Waiora.
  • Foster culturally safe care aligned with Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Ngāti Whātua as Mana Whenua.
  • Facilitate whānau hui and contribute to holistic care planning.

What We’re Looking For

  • Fluent in Te Reo Māori me ōna Tikanga.
  • 2 years or more experience working within Māori Health is preferred
  • Strong understanding of Māori health models, Tikanga Māori and whānau-centred practice.
  • Experienced in working with Tangata Mauiui and whānau in complex situations.
  • Ability to navigate and support both Māori and non-Māori health systems.
  • Confident leading and supporting key protocols such as mihimihi, karakia, whakawātea.
  • Committed to Māori health equity, smoking cessation, and healthy lifestyle promotion.
  • Has proficiency in computer literacy in Microsoft word, and e-mail, are essential, as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Has a current and full Driver's License and can drive a manual car
