About the Auckland System Management (ASM) Alliance

The ASM is an alliance between HEB Construction, Fulton Hogan and Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency to operate and maintain Auckland's motorway network. The Alliance is expected to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders as well as suppliers to deliver exceptional outcomes for customers using the Auckland transport system. Estimated project dates are from July 2019 to June 2028.

The Opportunity

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Project Engineer to join our team and play a key role in leading the delivery of our renewals programme.

As the Stormwater Renewals Project Engineer, you will work alongside a dynamic team of engineers, contractors, and stakeholders, to ensure the efficient and effective delivery of renewal activities on a diverse set of stormwater assets including collection and conveyance, culvert systems and stormwater treatment assets.

What you will be doing

You will be working with the Stormwater Delivery Team to deliver a stormwater system that is safe, available, efficient, resilient, and optimised for customer and stakeholder outcome needs, and the right management of environmental effects for the present and future.

You will have a variety of responsibilities including:

  • Developing project proposals with cost estimates, schedules, resource requirements, and coordinating the execution of renewal projects, including procurement, contractor selection, and supervision.
  • Monitoring project progress, budgets, timelines, and ensuring compliance with health, safety, quality, and environmental standards in stormwater management projects.
  • Collaborating with internal and external teams, contractors, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders to gather input, address concerns, and ensure alignment, while fostering positive relationships.
  • Communicating project updates, findings, and recommendations to stakeholders through meetings, presentations, and reports.
  • Developing and implementing HSQE programs, conducting risk assessments, monitoring performance, and promoting continuous improvement, including identifying safety hazards, establishing procedures, and implementing measures.
  • Conducting regular safety audits, inspections of project sites and culverts to evaluate their condition, identify deficiencies, ensure structural integrity, and develop recommendations for maintenance, repair, or renewal.
  • Being available for shift work, both day and night, and on call 24/7 for respective projects, addressing safety findings, and ensuring corrective actions are implemented.

About You:

  • Our ideal candidate will have the following qualifications, experience and skills:
  • Tertiary qualification with NZCE or Bachelor of Engineering.
  • 3+ years relevant experience in road network operations and maintenance.
  • Ability to work; Day and Night Shift(s) as per job requirements (Sun-Thurs Night)
  • Physically able for site work and inspections.
  • Full NZ Class 1 Drivers licence.

  • Accountability - Faces up to problem situations quickly and directly and does not hold back when action needs to be taken.
  • Computer and IT skills such as excel, pdf mark up, word and project.
