About The Role

This is an exciting opportunity for a Clinical Psychologist to join our passionate and multi-disciplinary team at Lakes Mental Health & Addiction in-patient unit. This position will work alongside the Closer to Home and Home Based Treatment teams.

Te Whare Oranga Tangata o Whakaue (Whare Whakaue) is a 14-bed Adult inpatient unit based in Rotorua serving the community of Lakes area, including Taupo, Turangi and Mangakino. This is an exciting time to join our team as we are preparing to move into the brand new contemporary 16-bed unit that is designed to better enable the aspirations of the model of care Te Ara Tauwhirotanga.

The team is looking for a Clinical Psychologist to provide essential psychological input to the service. We welcome Psychologists in all phases of their career to consider applying for this position. The role holds potential for service development and will be supported by a strong, collegial, professional network of psychologists within Te Whatu Ora Lakes district. This is a full-time role, but hours are negotiable.

The role involves providing assessments and brief interventions for tangata whaiora (service users) and psychological consultancy to the team and whole-service delivery. The role offers the opportunity to work with a multidisciplinary team, peer support lead, consumer and cultural advisors, and to work alongside tangata whaiora and their family/whanau as they navigate a time of mental health crisis, to help them make sense of their experiences in the context of their lives, and to move towards resolution of that crisis and recovery. To contribute to a seamless experience for tangata whaiora during their recovery journey, the role provides select intervention following discharge alongside the Closer to Home and Acute Response /Home Based Treatment teams, as agreed by the MDT.

The Psychologist role is supported by a professional advisor (Psychology) within Mental Health Services. You will also be part of a broader team of psychologists across adult mental health services. Under the APEX collective contract psychologists receive an allowance (pro rata) dependent on Salary Step for Continuing Professional Development which can be accumulated over two years. This offers the chance to attend overseas conferences or multiple workshops, plus books, and subscriptions each year.

About You

We are looking to recruit a Psychologist with:

  • Postgraduate Qualifications in Clinical Psychology or equivalent
  • Registration with the NZ Psychology Board as a Registered Clinical Psychologist
  • Current Practicing Certificate
  • Experience in brief psychological interventions
  • Experience in psychological, psychometric and neuropsychological assessment skills preferred
  • Experience in adult mental health settings with inpatient experience preferred
  • The ability to work autonomously and within short timeframes
  • Experience in the assessment and treatment of severe mental health disorders will be an advantage.
