Te Tūranga /About the role:

Our Belfast site in Christchurch is Silver Fern Farms’ largest South Island beef-only processing facility employing up to 400 people at the peak of the season.

We are looking for a motivated and skilled Maintenance Fitter/Engineer to join our engineering team who are crucial to keep our production running in a challenging, dynamic food production environment.

Our site operates both day and evening shifts. Our team of Maintenance teams are required to work to a roster covering production hours which run between 6am and 3am Monday to Friday and often include overtime during the day on Saturdays so flexibility to business needs – or understanding of this is important – but in return we will provide you with good $, some great training /development and a stellar team of work mates who not only want to see you succeed – but will support you along the way.

Ōu Pūkenga /About You

Previous experience in FMCG or transferrable production engineering environments would be an advantage, but the key is the ability to work as part of a team, to identify faults and use analytical and problem-solving skills to provide top level service to the processing plant. Working as part of a maintenance team, candidates will have good interpersonal skills and an attitude for getting stuck in to get the job done as well as thinking outside of the box – we appreciate and encourage new ideas and thought processes about how we can collaborate across our site to ensure the get to the root cause of issues and fix it right – first time.

The successful applicant will possess the following skills and attributes:

  • Relevant Trades Qualification (Level 4 Mechanical Diagnostics or Fitter/Turner or Fitter/Welder)
  • Good knowledge of sound engineering principals and repairs and maintenance procedures on a large industrial processing site – or a passion to learn in this environment.
  • Ability to analyse problems and implement effective solutions in a timely manner and communicate this with those around you.
  • Be self-motivated and capable of working both independently and within a tight knit team of engineering support
  • Organised, with the ability to plan and prioritise workload in a challenging engineering environment
  • Desire to keep learning and upskill – be this in a leadership scope or dual trading in to electrical – refrigeration or even project design.
