Mō te Tūranga | About the role

This role is all about designing, building, and delivering top-notch digital experiences that our customers will love. You'll be working with a range of technologies, from C# and Web API to React and JSON, to create solutions that are both functional and secure. As a senior technical leader, you'll be guiding your team to deliver high-quality solutions that meet the needs of our stakeholders and customers.

You'll be responsible for navigating the requirements and processes of different teams and departments, from security and risk to design, and making sure that our digital experiences are integrated with existing ASB systems. You'll be working closely with your team to plan and prioritise tasks, and communicating with stakeholders to ensure everyone is on the same page. Your work will make a real difference for our customers in Aotearoa, helping them to achieve their goals and improve their financial wellbeing.

As a talented and motivated Software Specialist, here's what you bring to the team:

Core Technical Skills

  • Minimum of 7 years' hands-on experience in software engineering, ideally within large-scale or enterprise environments
  • Tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technology discipline
  • Solid experience with C#, .NET / .NET Framework, Web API / REST, WCF, and SOAP
  • Strong understanding of JSON, XML, SQL, and enterprise integration design patterns
  • Familiarity with web security principles OWASP top 10 (Authentication, Authorisation, mTLS, Encryption)
  • Competency in async programming, Task API, Multithreading in .Net
  • Proficient in software testing principles and practices, including unit testing, integration testing, and automated testing pipelines.
  • Proficient in DevOps tools like Git, GitHub enterprise, Azure DevOps and CI/CD pipelines (Azure Pipelines, Octopus, GitHub actions)
  • Proficient with NuGet Package Manager.
  • Experience with BDD (e.g. ReqnRoll) and tools like Postman, Insomnia REST
  • Experience working with relational databases and writing efficient SQL queries for high-volume systems.

Bonus Skills (Nice To Have)

  • Cloud platforms like Azure or AWS
  • Experience with Kafka, Docker, Kubernetes, KONG Gateway, or Service Mesh
  • Observability tools like Kibana/Elastic
  • Exposure to Snyk and Checkmarx
