The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Underwriter to join our dynamic team and play a key role in delivering exceptional underwriting services that inspire confidence and trust among clients and advisers. This role is ideal for a seasoned professional who thrives in a collaborative, agile environment and is passionate about risk assessment, relationship management, and continuous improvement.
As an Underwriter, you will assess and accept life, disability, and trauma risks within agreed guidelines and authority levels. You will leverage tele-underwriting and innovative tools to expedite decisions, maximise retention, and support our mission to be a top-tier provider in the market.
You will also be a trusted partner to advisers and distribution channels, providing expert advice, tailored solutions, and proactive support. Your ability to communicate complex decisions clearly and build strong relationships will be essential to your success.

You'll have the freedom to work remotely, with 50% of the time in the office per fortnight, ensuring a harmonious balance between business needs and personal flexibility.

Your Story
Asteron Life Has Adopted Agile Ways Of Working, Providing a Flexible Environment For Individuals To Make a Significant Contribution To Our Success Through The Application Of Their Skill And Experience. To Thrive In This Environment Ideally a Candidate Has The Following Attributes
- A minimum of 2 years Underwriting experience of life, disability and trauma risk at a Senior level
- An understanding of medical terminology, disease process, treatments and prognosis
- An understanding of financial and accounting matters i.e., the ability to analyse financial accounts and apply the outcome to the underwriting decisions
- An understanding of the legal aspects affecting risk management i.e., Insurance Law Reform Act, Fair Trading Act, Privacy Act and Human Rights Act etc.
- Knowledge of Asteron’s risk products
- Knowledge of Asteron’s reinsurance treaties and facultative arrangements
- Confidence to communicate solutions and alternatives to advisors and maintain good relationships
