What is the role?
We are seeking a seasoned Senior Manager of Geospatial Development and Operations to oversee the day-to-day management of Cotality New Zealand’s unique geospatial products, including our flagship NZ MasterMap platform. Based in Wellington, this pivotal role is responsible for setting the strategic direction for geospatial data quality and delivery, maintaining operational excellence across existing platforms, and helping shape the future of Cotality ‘s location intelligence capabilities. Please note that this role is based in Wellington, New Zealand.
At Cotality, we work with a range of geospatial technologies, including Smallworld GIS, ArcGIS Pro, and FME Desktop/Server. The NZ MasterMap product, which this role directly supports, is currently based on the Smallworld GIS platform. This role will also contribute to the planning, design, and implementation of the next generation of geospatial platforms, ensuring we continue to meet and exceed our customers’ evolving needs.
The successful candidate will drive operational excellence, maintain high standards of data quality, collaborate with internal and external stakeholders on geospatial data deliveries, and lead a diverse team of technical professionals. This is a key leadership role at the intersection of geospatial data management, platform innovation, and customer success.

What Will You be Doing?
As Senior Manager of Geospatial Development and Operations, you will:
- Strategy Contribution: Contribute to Cotality’s geospatial vision, strategy, and roadmap to maintain and enhance the most comprehensive geospatial data product in the New Zealand market.
- Team Leadership: Direct the workflow of a team responsible for capturing and maintaining geospatial data within Smallworld GIS to support the NZ MasterMap product.
- Nurture and Develop High Performers: Demonstrated ability to hone and nurture high performers, fostering their growth and development to achieve their full potential. E.g. mentorship, development plans, and offering opportunities for skill enhancement and career progression.
- Quality Management: Set clear quality standards and targets and manage the team to consistently achieve these outcomes.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Develop and maintain strong working relationships with internal teams, including Property Research, Data & Analytics, Data Engineering, and others, to support the production and delivery of a high-quality geospatial data asset.
- Client Support: Support internal and external clients to ensure all data quality and delivery Service Level Agreements (SLAs) are met, and help customers maximize the value derived from Cotality’s geospatial products.
- Champion a Growth Mindset: Proven track record of encouraging a growth mindset within the team, challenging the status quo, and driving continuous improvement. This involves promoting innovative thinking, embracing new technologies (such as AI) and methodologies, and leading the team through transformational changes to achieve strategic goals.
- Sales Enablement: Collaborate with segment leads on the development of sales tools, marketing collateral, pricing models, and user personas to support commercial success.
- Product Development: Manage and prioritize product development initiatives as required, including the creation of supporting artefacts such as user guides, training materials, and operational documentation.
- Operational Maturity: Drive the maturation of product operations, including onboarding processes, user support, billing and invoicing, training, legal compliance, and other operational areas critical to delivering a seamless client experience.
- WHS: All Cotality Workers must take reasonable care for their own health and safety while at work, ensure their actions do not compromise the safety of others, follow reasonable instructions to support Cotality’s WHS obligations, and actively cooperate with the WHS Framework including participating in any training required. Workers are encouraged to understand this policy and seek clarification from management when needed.
What credentials do you need?
- Formal qualifications in IT, Engineering, Geospatial Science, or a related field, or equivalent knowledge gained through hands-on experience.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience working with geospatial data and platforms, and/or leading geospatial operations teams.
- Hands-on experience with GIS technologies (e.g., Smallworld GIS, ArcGIS, FME, or equivalent platforms).
- Domain-specific industry experience in Utilities, Real Estate, Insurance, or Banking & Finance sectors is highly regarded.
- Working knowledge of cloud technologies (e.g., AWS, Azure, or GCP) is desirable.
