What you will be doing

As the Database Platform Capability Lead, you will help us accelerate Tower's strategy and own our capability framework. Your role will be to help develop, govern and continuously improve this framework. You will be spending time in this leadership style role and on the tools.

Dive into the heart of your responsibilities:

  • Be the role model for the behaviours and ways of working required by our operating model
  • Connect the Platform Engineering chapter to the overall Tower strategy in your area of capability
  • Promote a cross-chapter culture of empowerment over control, collaboration, and trust.
  • Ensure the right level of documentation is up to date and in place
  • Support the capability of the Platform to deliver software swiftly and safely while understanding customer impact
  • Support the capability of the Database Platform Engineering team and it' members (Including 3rd parties)
    • Motivate people, build strong capability, and develop talent
    • Structure knowledge and share it across the squads
    • Federate responsibilities where possible to provide opportunities for others to step up
    • Encourage consistent and improved ways of working, including process and tooling
  • Support the Capability of the Product to meet the needs of the Customer
    • Feed into the Design and Product Ideation process
    • Take a holistic approach to the wider department objectives
    • Work with capability leads, product owners others as a key stakeholder to ensure Quality
    • Work with the Architecture team to ensure solutions are well architected, designed and delivered to best practice standards and are fit for purpose
    • Cross squad awareness - what work is going on, what state it is in, how it all fits together.
  • Perform operational support and management of our Database Platform.
  • Provide technical direction and advice for database services.
  • Share expertise and knowledge across technical teams, contribute to team strategy.
  • Apply a rational and reasoned approach to problem solving to produce viable solutions.
  • Ensure tooling and frameworks are fit for purpose, efficient, scalable, and maintainable and are applicable to Tower's database strategy.
  • Lead database requirements for projects and initiatives
  • Lead database migration and upgrade initiatives
  • Develop and maintain database roadmap
  • Ensure BAU activities and support is maintained and effective

What you'll need

  • Solution architecture or design experience with database services.
  • Real world IT infrastructure operational experience with recent active experience with Database services in Azure public cloud and On prem
  • Experience managing database roadmaps and managing initiatives
  • Strong knowledge and experience of Microsoft SQL and Azures cloud platform and services - consider yourself an SQL database expert
  • Understand concepts of identity management and role-based access control.
  • Experience with configuring and maintaining monitoring & alerting database services.
  • Proficiency with mentoring & coaching less experienced team members
  • Firm understanding of Architecture, SDLC and Product development best practices
  • Demonstrated experience in making decisions based on data and business value
