Why This Role?
You’ll be stepping into a leadership role that combines technical expertise with people-first management. As the Sterile Services Manager, you will:
- Lead and inspire a team of 16–20 Sterile Services professionals
- Champion best practice sterilisation processes in accordance with AS/NZS 4187:2014 standards
- Drive performance improvement and quality assurance across all reprocessing functions
- Work collaboratively with Theatre and Clinical leaders to ensure seamless surgical support
- Be a mentor and coach — supporting training, development, and professional growth
Your Key Responsibilities
- Manage all aspects of sterile processing including decontamination, inspection, assembly, packing, sterilisation, and documentation
- Oversee staffing levels, rosters, and team performance, ensuring a safe and effective department
- Lead internal audits and compliance initiatives, aligning with infection control standards and hospital quality frameworks
- Collaborate on strategic goals, business plans, and continuous service improvement
- Participate in cross-functional committees and champion excellence across the perioperative environment
What You’ll Bring
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in a hospital Sterile Services Department
- 2+ years in a leadership/supervisory role, with proven people management skills
- NZSSA Certification in Sterilising Technology (Level 4 or above)
- Strong understanding of sterilising technologies, equipment validation, and infection control protocols
- A coaching mindset, excellent communication skills, and a calm, organised leadership style
- Computer literacy, and ideally, experience managing loaned surgical instruments and tracking systems
