About the role:
We're looking for a proactive and detail-oriented Assistant Accountant to join our team in Auckland.
As an Assistant Accountant, you will play a vital role in supporting our finance operations contributing to accurate financial reporting, efficient processes, and tax compliance.

Northpower is an electricity and fibre network provider for Whangārei and Kaipara, with more than 60,000 connected customers.
We are one of the largest multi-utility contractors in New Zealand, servicing the needs of clients in transmission, distribution, generation, fibre, renewables, and commercial sectors. As an Assistant Accountant, you will play a vital role in supporting our finance operations contributing to accurate financial reporting, efficient processes, and tax compliance.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Monthly journals processing
- Balance sheet reconciliations
- Lease accounting
- Accounts Payable & Receivable
- Bank & Account Reconciliations
- General Ledger Maintenance
- Tax Compliance (GST, FBT and Income Tax Returns)
- Internal Controls & Process Improvement
- Capex requests
- Support year end audit and financial reporting
- Administrative & Ad Hoc Tasks
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting
- Provisional member of CA ANZ
- 1–2 years of experience in an accounting or finance role in a complex environment (preferred)
- Proficiency with accounting software and strong Excel skills
- Experience with ERP systems (especially JDE)
- Knowledge of New Zealand tax laws and regulations
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Ability to meet internal and external deadlines
- A positive attitude, eagerness to learn and a great team player
- Great organisation and documentation skills
- Detail-oriented with good problem-solving skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities
