The role:

We're seeking a Senior DataOps Engineer. The role sits within our Platform Tribe, a group that works behind the scenes to help the entire engineering team move faster, safer, and with greater confidence. The platform owns the foundations: cloud infra, tooling, observability, and data. It’s where we think long-term, but move quickly.

You’ll focus on the data side of Platform, working across squads to guide how we structure, store, and scale data. Some days, you’ll be in the weeds optimising queries or shaping schemas. Others, you’ll be advising product teams, supporting feature rollouts, or contributing to our AWS-based data architecture.

PostgreSQL sits at the heart of our stack, so we’re looking for someone comfortable navigating relational data at scale, helping us improve performance, reliability, and structure as we grow.

Overall, you'll play a significant role in shaping how we build, collaborate, and make data easier to work with across the board.

What you’ll do:

• Database Leadership: Be a trusted guide for our data systems, especially around PostgreSQL performance, design, and reliability
• Squad Collaboration: Work directly with product teams to support new features and shape their data models
• Query Optimisation: Solve problems like slow queries or data bottlenecks with a calm, methodical approach
• AWS Infrastructure Support: Help scale and maintain our AWS data setup (S3, Glue, Redshift, Parquet, RDS)
• Platform Contributions: Improve tooling, standards, and documentation as part of the wider Platform team
• Team Enablement: Share knowledge generously and support others across the engineering team
• Secure and Sustainable Systems: Build with privacy, performance, and long-term maintainability in mind
  
  

What We're Looking For

• AWS Datalake Experience: Hands-on experience working with a data lake setup in AWS, including S3, Glue, Redshift, Parquet, and RDS
• PostgreSQL Experience: Strong hands-on knowledge of relational databases in production, especially PostgreSQL
• Data Architecture Mindset: A good eye for clean data design and scalable systems
• Systems Thinking: You understand the knock-on effects of a change across infra, data flows, product experience, and even internal tooling
• Bonus Tech Stack: Exposure to Python or Terraform is nice to have, but not a must
• Collaborative Approach: Enjoys working cross-functionally and contributing to shared goals
• Problem-Solving Instincts: Can prioritise, stay calm under pressure, and solve the correct problems
• Clear Communication: Brings clarity, context, and care to both written and spoken communication
