The Bookkeeper is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records and supporting the day-to-day accounting functions of the company’s wholesale and retail operations across multiple locations. This position plays a critical role in ensuring timely reconciliation, compliance, and reporting for a high-volume cash and inventory-based business.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

Ø Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts and financial records using Xero and other accounting software.

Ø Monitor daily cash flow and coordinate bank deposits across multiple retail stores.

Ø Prepare monthly profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports.

Ø Reconcile accounts payable and receivable; match purchase orders with supplier invoices.

Ø Verify and record all transactions, investigate discrepancies, and report irregularities to management.

Ø Prepare and file GST returns and assist with PAYE and other statutory tax filings.

Ø Generate weekly sales, expense, and inventory reports for management analysis.

Ø Assist with the preparation of annual budgets and expenditure forecasts.

Ø Liaise with store managers on inventory purchases, invoice matching, and petty cash use.

Ø Maintain records of staff leave, timesheets, and payroll summaries for payroll processing.

Skills and Qualifications

Diploma or higher qualification in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

If you have no qualification, you must have minimum 2 years’ bookkeeping experience, preferably in a retail or wholesale environment,

Proficient with accounting software (e.g., Xero or MYOB) and Microsoft Excel.

Strong understanding of New Zealand tax compliance, GST, and payroll processes.

Excellent attention to detail and time management skills.

Able to work independently and communicate effectively with team members and suppliers.
