Our mahi (work) is organised around the delivery of our three core services:
As a Principal Advisor you’ll be the technical specialists who help grow our understanding of what is important to our community and, in turn, help our communities understand the work we are doing.
This role will also support incident responses providing an opportunity for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, where often no two days are the same. We also provide public information support to our civil defence function in regional emergencies, which can be challenging, yet rewarding mahi.

You’ll be someone who has a proven record of delivering consistent, high-quality communications advice, including media relations. You’ll excel at taking complex information and transforming it into simple language, crafting well-written content for multiple channels. Your ability to balance a busy role with conflicting priorities and activities from across the organisation and your agility to respond effectively to changing circumstances will see you thrive in this role.
Mātau ā-Wheako | Experience
Ideally, you’ll be tertiary qualified along with experience in the following:

Mātau ā-Wheako | Experience
Ideally, you’ll be tertiary qualified along with experience in the following:
- Significant experience in communications, public relations, digital communications, public engagement, e-commerce or a related field
- Able to grasp complex concepts quickly and translate into compelling communications
- Demonstrable relationship building and interpersonal skills, with the ability to exercise diplomacy and discretion, recognise risk and take mitigating actions
- Sound working knowledge of communications tools, techniques and channels
- Tact, confidentiality, and integrity when dealing with sensitive issues.
- Understanding of te Ao Māori and te reo Māori is advantageous
